What would your stats be?

Enoki

SOC-14 1K
This one of those things that sometimes comes up in RPGs, the players inject themselves into the game as themselves... or, at least as they see themselves.
If you were to characterize your own stats and skills how would you stack up as a Traveller character? You might take a little liberty on the tech level given that you would be in a Traveller universe....

Its in my signature.... And we used the T4 stat yourself page.

Navy (Flight) Enlisted Rank 2 1 term
Citizen (Worker) 5 terms

Admin 2, Art (Drawing/Graphic Design) 1, Carouse 0, Comms 0, Computers 2, Drive (Wheeled) 1, Engineer (Electronics) 1, Investigate 0, J-o-T 1, Language 0, Mechanic 1, Social Sciences (Philosophy) 0, Space Sciences (Astronomy) 0, Survival 0

Honestly, I think something like Drive might be 2 or Computers 3. I'm not exactly sure how to evaluate skill levels and such. And I wouldn't know where to start with stats. Also, I might have done a term of Citizen (Corporate) instead of a term of Citizen (Worker).

Probably about 678(5)*8)6)**94+.

* = I have asthma and am out of shape; 8 is for carrying/walking and 5 is for running.

** = not for being stupid, but for a few factors which may affect my ... hmmm ... something undefinable about my reasoning.

+ = due to my working as a crossing guard and my socialization ability (I tend to screw myself when it comes to jobs).

As for skills ... JoT 1 Computer 0 Drive 0 Write 1 Admin 1 Instruction 0. There may be a few more but I'm not sure.

As for me putting it in a Traveller context I would come out something like..

Imperial Navy retired final rank E-7 Engineering branch. 10 terms.

stats: 7 9 9 A B 6

I think a master's qualifies for the educ stat. I am still fairly nimble and do crazy things like lay block in 42 C weather....

Skills: Combat engineer 3 (there isn't one for general construction / general contracting so I counted this), gun combat rifle 1, shotgun 1, pistol 2 (I've had to repeatedly qualify on all three over the years and held pistol sharpshooter as well so a bit better there), Vehicle 2 (wheeled, tracked and most heavy machinery), Mechanic 3, Electronics 4 (lots of Navy schools etc.), Engineering 4 (nuclear power school and lots of experiance), Instructor 2 , History 4 (MA military history) , computer 2 (BS in programming), admin 2 (anyone who deals with the military as management has to do this), Jack of all Trades 2, leader 1, blade (foil) 1 ... was on fencing team in college...

Admin-1 Electronics-1 Mechanic-0 Wheeled Vehicles(Car)-2 Survival (Cold Climates)-0 Computers-1 [though no programming skills at all...] Leader-0 History-0 (maybe, probably not in reality) Surveillance-2 Brawling-0 [ppt training] Medic-0 (first aid/CPR training) Gaming-4 (ok, it's not an official Trav stat, but should be)

Gaming-4 (ok, it's not an official Trav stat, but should be)

I think that's Carousing in the Mongoose rules. Your Medic should be higher if you've got certifications, I'd think.

Looking at your stats reminds me I probably have Medic 0 and Pistol 0, too. Just the basics.

We're probably all using different versions of Traveller here. I based mine on MgT.

Na. Even a level '0' would (I think; I could easily be wrong) imply better knowledge of anatomy, what certain symptoms might infer, etc. "I" don't have that kind of knowledge, other than the basic "you've got a cold, silly" type of stuff.

We're probably all using different versions of Traveller here. I based mine on MgT.

I'm using GURPS, as my gamers use that almost exclusively. I'd like to get back to the classic, but... <sigh>

[And truth be told, the ship designs are MUCH more fun in GT; I've had all kinds of fun designing ships for races - maybe I'll to post the story of the Regina Rally once they finish the race in a few sessions; darned players, they're way in the lead already, and it's only 1/3 over! Time to pull out the Vargr corsairs!]

In GT there are specific skills for the games (chess, mah johng, whatever).

Mine would be rather pathetic (well, the physical stats probably okay, as I recently did squat 345 pounds, trying to get back to 275 bench presses, and I'm back into running training for a 1/2 marathon; and I guess a masters must count towards EDU) but my skill set, ugh. Maybe computer 1, wheeled 0, admin 0. You would think after 46 more years I'd have a larger skill set, but CT was a bit limited in that area (which is the version I'm statting to) and I'm lazy. I'd have procrastination 3 if that was a skill!

My wife, on the other hand, would stat out high across the board (fire fighter, only female line officer in a FD > 220 people, her all-female team came in 3rd in the world at the fire fighter challenge series, and enough certifications to literally stuff a fat binder [literally because she HAS the fat binder along with all her commendations - they use that info as part of the promotion process, and she always outscores everyone else]). She just did a marathon in AZ, and has done 50 mile races, biked across more than a few states, and generally puts me to shame for my laziness!

Now our SOC would not be great, and she thinks hers is lower than it is as she does like this phrase: Mess with me, mess with the whole trailer court! (and yes, actually, we do own a mobile home, but we rent it out, so maybe we're slum landlords as well...but it is a nice mobile home!

Hi

I doubt that my physical stats have ever been anyhing but average (at best) and have probably dropped a little as I have aged. In addition I tend to be a bit clumsy. So at most I'd think my Strength and Endurance might be about 5or so (maybe +/- 1), and my Dexterity maybe 4 or so (with my questionable eyesight maybe also playing a role in my ability to see small object and do fine/precise tasks).

As for Intelligence and Education, I did graduate from college with a dual engineering degree, but a college degree doesn't seem all that atypical right now, though the school I went to is considered highly in its field. So I gues my Intelligence and Eductation is probably about average, somewhere between 6 & 8 or so.

As for Social Standing, I guess I'm pretty much middle class (6-8?).

So at most I'd think my stats are something like 545777 or maybe 545887 (unlless Intelligence can drop with age, as I seem to be getting more and more forgetful/absent minded as time goes on).

For skills, I probabably have basic levels in stuff like ground vehicle, computer, and maybe just a little higher in engineering, naval architecture (or similar) and being a general doofus.

Regards

PF

I'm counting skiils from that scientist article in Challenge magazine, phew!

EDIT: You know, as a Roman/iron-age re-enactor, my stats and skills in RuneQuest would be much better :)

Perhaps a mention as to which version of Traveller is being used to stat yourself? Not all Travellers are equal.
