What threats does the Imperium face?

I'm not that conversant in Traveller lore. What are the major internal and external threats that the Imperium faces?

Aliens - within and without
Disgruntal Nobles
Unhappy Proles
Other Interstellar Powers
Republicans
Racialists

just to name a few...

Trader Jim?

For a more detailed breakdown, we need a time reference.
CT era (early 1100's)
MT era (1120's or so)
TNE ( mid to late 1100's)
or others.

The Threats changed from time to time. Especially the exterior ones.

Evening adamsmith,

Rough data here:

The 990s is somewhere between the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th and later Frontier Wars. Which makes the following as external threats:
1. Zhodani
2. Vargr - allies with the Zhodani and corsair bands looking for loot and new worlds.
3. Other Zhodani allies not affiliated with the 3I.

Internal
1. Solomani Rim War begins
2. Ine Givar and other rebel groups

Here is a link to a timeline, skipping MegaTraveller's late Rebellion and Traveller: The New Era story arcs, that might help.

Depends on how dark/illuminated you want your game and where it's played.

In the Spinward Marches, the external threat is the Zhodani and their allies, various Vargr groups and the Sword Worlders.

More to Rimward, it's the Solomani, and depending on if your on that side of the map, you can run some nice Cold War style senarios in Reavers' Deep, with a triple axis of competing poweres, the Imperium, the Solomani Confederation & various Aslan Clans, all playing in the clusters of independent states located there.

If you are deep in the Imperium, you can have ambitious nobles or senior Naval Officers or other dark conspiracies.

Hello Fellow Travellers,

In the year 1000, the 3I faces several threats:

First, is the Zhodani Councilate which it has fought three wars with.

Second, is the Vargr, some of who are allied with the Zhodani & some of who are just common pirates. (Can we all say "Look at the Doggie with the eyepatch & hook for a hand? I knew you could.")

Third, you have the Aslan. Now these "cats" view ownership of land as status & well the 3I does have a lot of worlds...

Fourth, you have the K'Kree who want to kill any thing that eats meat & they do taste good with a nice Bar-B-Que sauce.

Fifth, you have Hive...Fnord....(Small scuffle as LL is pulled down by what looks like a starfish, a few minutes pass & LL is proped back up.) The Hivers are of no threat to anyone, they just want to live in peace with you. Remember, Hivers are your friends.

Sixth, you have the Solomani who are fighting a war to create the Solomani Confederation.

Seventh, you have internal groups like the Ine Givar & Nobles who want the throne.

So in reality the Hivers are your friends & you should always trust them.

Brought to you by "The-Hivers-are-your-friends Foundation."
