Comparatively bland, or vanilla.

It's the differences in the environment that tend to make some foodstuff distinctive.
You might want to look here to get more ideas as to what might be done with hydroponics.

I would think nutritious, but bland.

On the other hand, impurities could be spicy.
Hydroponics just grows normal plants; there's no reason it would be bland, other than user choice, same for spicy. Horseradish? Spicy to very spicy. Carrots? bland to strong non-spicy. Beets? Sweet to bitter... by variety and what you feed them in the water.
Scotch bonnets? extra spicy to chemical weapon.

It's all about choices and availability, and what chemicals you need to add to the water to feed the plants. And whether or not you're processing post-consumer food for the needed chemicals...

I see few limits to hydroponics as a system to grow plants. However, I doubt you could manage to grow on a scale to support large-scale livestock production. That would limit you to plants and meat?-like plant-based substances. So in that respect, it would limit choice of foods some. No massive, juicy, bone-in, steaks for example.
 
I assume that with sufficent technology, it's possible to engineer meat production without all that messy "live animals" stuff -- and at high enough tech levels it's either indistinguishable from "real meat" or in fact superior to it. The phlebotnium in question is called "carnicuture vats".

Now, this video is instructive. Think about being the cook on some Imperial warship or a scout ship and you have limited to no particular training or experience in cooking. All you have is the standard issue "Cookbook of the Imperial Navy (or Scout Service)" to go by with the ingredients being procured by the supply officer at a base you were just at.


You follow the recipe and what results gets you spaced because you couldn't make it work like the recipe called for... :LOL:

I personally like this idea, but find myself frustrated at the lack of even minimum details. I leave it to others to decide whether they would like to use it or not in their own games or ship designs. Just sharing.

Stewards are a part of Traveller, one for every eight High Passengers. I feel that there is room for more use of Stewards on a ships crew, but that's just me, and goes beyond the minimum requirement for Traveller High Passenger needs.

I'm sure most games/campaigns have cooking in the background, so it should only be a concern when it's an important part of play and/or Character development.
You might want to look here for some ideas. This would be before microwave ovens which would expand the range of possible meals.
 
It's Black Friday Week, and I was considering air fryers, since computer components weren't really listed.

But, what was I going to do with my frying pan collection?

Apparently, you can air fry in two different compartments.
