Secrets of the Ancients could be one. Or even just Shadows.

But an 'expedition; that just excited and engaged your group?

Mad Genetic Science involving AI/Cyborg master mind terraforming Venus, with its of Dinosaurs and sentient Lizard Men.... In the end the game fell apart when the Players/Characters got into a heated argument over their cobbled together Gig...

Tournament in 1984: a non-human die-back world where terraforming had failed and gone to arid desert. The players were looking for relic technology and became separated from their ship by the surviving apex predators. They found some safety from an accidental feature of the previous inhabitant's architecture.

I've thought about revising it, but it would come across as a drier, better-lit copy of "Pitch Black", since that movie came out around 2000.

my Pax Stellar (hey, the name was from college 40+ years ago and it sounded cool then) game ended up on a post-apocalyptic world run by AI & their nanobots. Though I actually ran this for my game group late 2018. And sadly, we were on a 2-month long session and they had just got there and we never finished. I was really hoping to get their ship's computer to an AI state of things.

I've run Shadows, Twilight's Peak, RS Gamma, and A12 as a campaign,

Shadows is engaging almost every time.
