I dunno, ...Vilani might like some beet borscht. It only looks like pepto-bismol, but the taste is as wide and full as the steppes.
 
Tovarish generally implies acquaintance-who-is-not-hostile-to-me, amongst the russians I've met. Top of the list in my dictionaries is "Buddy"... but translating the use as Comrade (or Komrad) is one of those "no-no's" in translation, in the useage commonly used within the party. Friend is the one used by my Ex-KGB Podpolkovnika Uchitela v po-Russkij. (Lt Col. Instructor of Russian)
