Vargr Bootlicking?

NickP

SOC-9
I had to roll up a bunch of Vargr for my CT game. As Signal GK doesn't generate Vargr characters, I used Ace and the Dog's excellent TravGen Character Generator.

I know that this is a MegaTraveller program rather than being designed for CT, but it's usually easy enough to tweak it.

However, several of the characters I generated ended up with a skill called 'Bootlicking'. I have scanned through the MegaTraveller Rulebook and the Vargr supplements trying to find some info on what this skill is useful for and also tried Googling it without success, so I am still none the wiser.

It's really intriguing me now. What the hell is it for?!

If anyone has any idea, I would really like to hear them.

It's the skill for not getting kicked out when you failed to win that dominance fight, or for worming your way close enough to leadership to be able to tackle the boss. It's a subservient form of persuasion and carousing.

Many thanks for that. I guessed it was something along those lines, but wasn't sure how to apply the skills to particular situations. Now I get the idea.

Thanks again.

Do you have a link to the program? I am running an ongoing open-ended play by email campaign and it seems like I am getting an increase in vargr players.

That sounds a lot like a skill that is utilized in my organization... I need to work on that.

In preparation

On hearing that his new foes like bootlicking Splinter prepares for the upcoming encounter by dropping his boots in the nearest fresher then dragging them round engine sump for a while, finally he leaves them in the galley refuse bin overnight!!!!

Hi Hans,

While talking about bootlicking and brownnosing, this leads in to the perfect opportunity for me to thank you for all the excellent adventures (not to mention the other background material) you've written over the years.

I think that more than half of the adventures that I have run so far have been yours and there are a fair few more lined up as well. They always seem to be the ones that are best received by the players - not too vague and not too railroady.

So thank you very much for all your years of dedication and hard work to the cause.
