Using vehicular combat for starships

If you are really lucky with your rolls than it will be five hits to kill the free trader ;)

My players aren't wargamers, so I don't bother with vector movement at all - I now use an adaptation of the Starter Traveller range band system, which is like a simplified MT movement box/hex system.
A sheet of lined paper is all you need to track relative position from turn to turn, the players just decide if they are trying to close, maintain distance, or run, and how much of their maneuver capability they will sacrifice for evasion DMs.

Sounds reasonable enough.

I use Mayday movement rules.

I combine batteries into a single weapon using the rules for large scale combat, and the UCP of a single weapon in the battery.

IE, if the battery is composed of 10 weapons which would have UCP 1, then damage is based upon 10 weapons, while pen is based upon UCP 1, nor the UCP4 the battery would have. This makes the "Horde of Turrets" far less nasty to armored ships.

I use the x10 hits for craft from Ref's Gaming Kit. I agree that damage needs to be cut by a factor of 10 for the SS weapons table.

I never bother with the HG derived variant.
