Trillion Credit Squadron Question...

On page 38 of TCS ("Surrender" from the FFE reprint) it mentions that a captured atrport's repair facilities can be back up and running in 24 weeks, and construction facilities in 548 weeks... is this second "waiting period" a misprint? In either case, Why so long a wait, at least at higher Tech Levels? Is it considered time spent retooling facilities and such? In a high tech case, would intense amounts of automation speed up this process, if you worked the machines around the clock?

I think it's a misprint, copied from the original. I would think that 48 weeks is the correct figure, but I'll go hunt for errata.

FWIW, also keep in mind that TCS is a game and not considered Canon in terms of data on the Third Imperium. I believe the reasoning is figures and such were balanced to make the game more playable.

Pulled my original TCS, sure enough it says 548-weeks, Of course that's over ten years So I agree it must be a misprint and 48 weeks sounds right to me.

Would you trust a newly captured facility repairing your ship?
"OOps just dropped my hydrospanner into the fusion core. Oh well, it'll be okay when they power up, I won't be on board."

New construction, just program the robotic's, "now is that weld .1 or 1.0 thick?"

well, one could assume that if you went to the trouble of capturing a shipyard, you would have the locals do the "No brainer" stuff, at gunpoint, and have your own teams doing the crucial bits... Proper security precautions would be advantageous to this...

Alternately, it gives plenty of time to assemble new crews to replace the old ones, maybe that's why it takes so long...

According to a TV show last night, Polish prisoners forced to assemble V2 rockets used to urinate over the electronics, causing many to crash soon after launch.
