TravMap Input Questions

Tash,

I'm inputting the sector data from MegaTrav "Vilani & Vargr" and plan on doing a couple other available data sets for the Rebellion era. Feeling the need to contribute to a tool that I spend so much time on.

Do you want me to exclusively use the MT dataset/codes or should I convert them to T5? Or should I use Mongoose as I'm not a fan of T5? I was already planning on removing the "Extensions" but I was thinking that the "Worlds" and "Nobility" datasets may be useful even in MT times. But then I'm mixing things up. And, with different UWP's, they may be inaccurate. Same thing would apply to the Stellar data as I'm finding lots of differences.

How do you want past datasets presented?

What others sectors did you have in mind kligs? I don't want to duplicate effort or waste either of our times.

I put up the existing Rebellion sectors in T5 format and am nearly finished with reviewing my work with Ealiyasiyw, Corridor, Riftspan Reaches and Deneb (from Travellers Digest issues 18 and 19). I also finished inputting Vland and T5ed it, but had not reviewed it yet.

I had been away from doing the map because I got burned out after doing 1248 and and Millieu 0. Well. that and my diabetes has been kicking me the last few months.

Post here or PM me if you would like to coordinate efforts.

Yikes! Good thing you posted. I was working on Vland (from V and V) and the Lishun subs from the Flaming Eye. There's also one subsector in Delphi from Challenge.

Your earlier sectors were what tripped my question... I noticed you put the T5 Extensions in them and the allegiances were 4-digit. So wasn't sure if there was an agreed upon format.

I'll switch over to the Lishun and Delphi subs.

Thank you on Vland. Wont go to Lishun or Delphi then.

Yes I was sort of trailblazing. inexorabletash made a comment about T5 format when I started Rebellion and I thought "Why not?" I put together a spreadsheet where I dump the current travellermap data (or current as when I pull it) of 1105 along with 1120 data and it compares each data element in common. My checking goes sort of like this:

In 1120 we are not at Hard Times or Virus yet so planets are for the most part only changing hands and social info, not getting outright nuked but you never know...

Stars, # of Worlds, PBG, Size, Atmo, Hydro are T5 values. There were changes to size that some atmosheres require a certain size. That was fixed in map data so I use travellermap.

Starport, Pop, Gov, LL, TL are compared from T5. If 1120 has a difference I adjudicate. Like there were a few systems that went Gov whatever to 0 because Pop is 0, so I figured 1105 is correct, 1120 is wrong. Some are editorial due to MT vs T5

Now that the primary UWP is fixed I delete computable 1120 Remarks (like Poor, HiPop, etc.) and recompute them based on T5 standards because the changes in above step might impact here. Non-computable remarks, like Fr(ozen), minor races and Soph:n codes from T5 are kept.

Bases are compared and if 1120 is used, convert to T5.

Zones are compared. All existing Ambers and Reds are kept. New ones are remade based on that Gov+LL > 20 or 22 rule in the 5.09 rulebook along with appropriate Fo, Da and Pz remarks. This is a personal bias as I do not wish to change existing canon so much and yet must obey feel T5 standards. Also Rebellion is a little more dangerous than the "Golden Era". So there!

Importance and Extensions can be recomputed. Where a "dice roll" is involved and the UWP might impact the value (like Resources or Homogeneity), I reverse engineer the 1105 value to find the original roll then recompute with the 1120 value. This way changes to the extensions are a gradual thing....

If you go T5SS, look at Foreven Sector in 1120. It shows how you can format with blank data and what fields can be.

Easy peasy. Well maybe not....
