travelling a full circle....

Odd deja vue thought occured to me today...

I began playing CT waaaay back in 77/78 as a sophmore in high School and over the interveening years played or exposed to just about every system to come down the pipe from Iron Crown to Steve Jackson and the horrid cybog commando Gygax came out with (I bought it at a dollar tree for a buck).

And now I have a MGT game on thurdays that has made me pull out all my old CT stuff to use again....even most of players I have are either old-timers from the dawn of the era, or folks I hooked up with after I got out of the navy back in 85....

yup...tavelling a full circle to where it all began

Am I alone in this? or has anyone else travelled this path too? :oo:
and it makes me wonder also if there is any new blood playing our old freind or are we all outcasts from the dawn of time?

Well, I think i fit into the old school category
started playing around 81/82 when my brother bought the
deluxe Traveller box set, and basically, been playing on and off
since then (missed quite a few years after MT came out though to be honest)

I statrted when the game first came out in 77, I still have the original Book 2, High Guard, and Mercenary. They are falling to pieces, but lasted longer than the others. I always ran CT, and it was always MTU. Striker was the only "extra" ruleset.

I hadn't run a Traveller campaign in years, but after a stumbled across all my RPG things in a couple of boxes in the garage I started thinking. My daughter was helping me and was amazed at all the drawings, notebooks, stories, house rules, and other volumes of work I had put into it. She called me a nerd and it was off to the races.

I have the original core players here in town. I asked them what they thought and, after a revamp and update of my universe to advance it 20 years from where they left off, the guys are now running their old characters again in new adventures.

It's an amazing amount of fun to slip back into old roles and play characters who, while not all as young as they once were, are also not as broke and desperate either. Instead, they are coming out of retirement to try adventuring "one more time". Thank God for anagathics!

I played the original as a secondary game in late 79/early 80 til about 84-85. If the usual DnD group couldn't all make it, I ran Traveller (I had all of them...including some non-GDW). I bought Mongoose Traveller last month. Nothing in between. So I guess I have returned to the starting place for me. Zipped over a lot of the in-between but I have returned.

I started playing Traveller in 1983 (and running it by early 1985).

I have never gone to any later version, just filled out my "real Traveller" collection.

The group I currently do Traveller with all share one characteristic... they had played fantasy RPGs before meeting me (my cousin met me waaaay back, but began playing before I moved here), but no Sci-Fi RPGs.

I taught all of them Traveller in the last 7 years.

My cousin recently ref'ed Annic Nova for us.

Certainly, I've gone that route.

From Traveller, and Gamma World in the early days of 78-79, I've petty much Refereed it all.

I just recently picked up MG Traveller, and 760 patrons...(Trading in a pile of Fast Forward 3.0 / 3.5 to get those.)

I never got rid of my old Classic / Mega / 2300 / New Era / T4 stuff, either...it's up to 6 crates now, including the old FASA deckplans, and the B/w Cover box Imperium.

New Campaign starts in november, 2008.

I've been building a pure rules CT campaign (only Books 1-3) in my own homegrown universe. The hope is that I'll get time to actually run a game... hope...

But I have come full circle. I had to re-read the rules to make sure I was fresh on "pure" CT rules and not mixing in so many of hte house-rules that I've created, or the bits and pieces of snagged from other systems over the years.

And, like you, I was re-invigorated by the purity of the system. This campaign I'm planning on using *all* the rules *as written* but *only* book 1 - 3. And I'm finding that in just those pure 3 rules I can do a hell of a lot....
