Traveller Map

2 major problems:

1. click&drag does not work.

2. no (move map Rimward) button.

Combined, this means if I move the map to look at something to coreward, I cannot move it back Rimward without exiting and re-entering the website. And then all it does is re-center the map on the Imperium. I still cannot look at the rimward areas in detail.

I know the Vilani think their part of space is the center of everything, but really!!!

Works fine for me using MacOSX 10.4 and Firefox (current on both).

I can scroll in/out, click and drag around, double click in.

Check to see that your javascript is enabled.

1. click&drag does not work.

2. no (move map Rimward) button.

What operating system and browser/version are you using?

This has been tested on Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 on MacOS X and Windows XP, Safari 1.3 on MacOS X and Safari 3 on MacOS X and Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7 on Windows, and Opera 9 on Windows XP.

When clicking and dragging, are you clicking/dragging on the map?

Do you have any unusual settings in your browser, such as disabling scripts or styles, non-default font sizes, etc?

If your browser gives any sort of script error (IE: shows on the status bar; others may have Tools / JavaScript Console), what is it showing?

Okay, dragging should now work in Netscape Navigator 7. Trivial fix to one file. Next step: getting NN7 installed on a Win98 virtual machine...

Um, no idea why you're not getting the Rimward button. Here's a screenshot of my (virtual) Win98 (classic!) + Netscape Navigator 7.2:

Scratch that - I have a guess:

Go to View > Text Zoom - if you have zoom set to > 100% the Rimward button is cut off. Set this to 100% and you should be fine. Alternately, now that dragging works, ignore the buttons (I don't think anyone uses them, but they were there in the GURPS Traveller image!)

Sorry about that. The initial implementation of the site actually used "natural sizing", i.e. the space set aside for buttons was determined by the size of the buttons themselves, using tables. Unfortunately this required hacks for non-IE browsers and became quite fragile. I switched to "modern" CSS layout which works nicely cross-browser on anything newer than IE5. Alas, this has issues if browsers lie about dimensions (e.g. if you ask for 10pt text and set aside 10pt of space), which is what happens if you play with font size setting. IE7 and I believe FF3 do uniform zooming of all content instead, which avoids such issues.

OK, click&drag still does not work for me in NN7.2... but it DOES in IE.

However, I cannot scale the text in IE (changing the size in the toolbar makes no dofference), but I CAN scale the text size in NN7.2, and so can use all 4 buttons to move the map around.

Ok, at least I can move it one way or the other in both.

Thanks for the effort & advice, much abliged.

Works fine on my TL-13 hand computer :)

@Andrew

Freakin' awesome! Great "handout" for a game.

@inexorabletash

Any chace of going "deeper" with the map? What would be perfect is if, at the lowest level, you could double click on a world and see the UWP. Then, double click again and see the entire system info (from H&E).

Then, it would be the ultimate GM's resource.
