Total Recall 2070

Arnie's film is one of my favs. I have come across reference to a TV show called: Total Recall 2070. Is it any good, is it worth getting the whole Boxed Set, if so does someone have the Boxed Set that they can impart with. Price online is $15 but I would rather buy from a fellow citizen.

I saw every episode that aired locally. It was OK. A blend of Blade Runner and Total Recall universes. I don't think it "ended" though, got yanked (here at least) before it had a chance to tie up the story as I recall. It got the typical network sci-fi treatment... bounced around time slots and days, preempted and interrupted for sports and breaking news about lost puppies or the weather :file_28:

I'd probably rate it a solid 6 pushing 7 out of 10. Kind of mediocre in every department. Acting, characters, plots, writing, effects. But hey, for $15 I'd probably buy it to see it if I hadn't. Sorta like TekWar, if I hadn't seen it I'd probably blow $15 to satisfy my curiosity, but I wouldn't likely watch it in reruns.

Saw about half of it. May be worth watching if you like your detective kind of sci-fi. It's more Bladerunner than Total Recall but is definitely a direct mix of the two. If you're bored you can do much worse, but it's not great. Mind you for $15 CAD it's practically free.

Mediocre as compared to what? Black Scorpion?? ROFL!!

At least Black Scorpion* had an interesting title ;)

I guess it was largely due to Total Recall 2007 not living up to all the hype and hopes :rolleyes: That's not a typo on the title by the way. It's the way I felt watching the whole thing.

That's a common problem for me, a show or movie will build itself up and I'll forget what's happened before when I go into something with high expectations. So I end up disappointed again. But it's a drag the other way around too, anticipating that everything is going to suck just so I can accept mediocre as interesting ;)

*Never saw it by the way. Hadn't even heard of it, and googling I can see why, LOL. Of course I'd have approached such a show with no hope of more than campy entertainment, and probably wouldn't have been disappointed.

That's OK, Dan... I got the 'Space: Above and Beyond' box set for Christmas. While I was sort of a fan while it was on the air, I gotta say that sometimes my disbelief feels like it isn't suspended, it's in a low berth! :)

Oh, well. It was just another Traveller game gone wild! LOL!!

That's too bad about the Space: A&B, it was an instant favorite of mine when it aired but I suspect that if I watched it again, now, it wouldn't have the same effect for me.

A big part of the grab there was the way we were dumped into the middle of the story and had to run to join in* :) Each week was an "oh, so that's what that's about" discovery :D Wouldn't work the same watching it again :(

* which is one reason it never did well in ratings, "people" just don't want to think in front of The Box or be challenged to wonder for a week, at least according to the almighty ratings

ottarrus? ottarrus?...

...Oh! IT'S Captain Ganidiirsi O'Flynn!

Have you seen the Alias thread in the CotI Website Issues section? You can have your name back for a low low price* from our glorious leader ;)

* typically fixing your broken sig is enough :)

Done and done!

Did you notice Grufty's Hiver 'Commentary on the Fragmentational Developments Within the 3rd Imperium Due to the Nascent Second Civil War' ?

:)

It was in the Alias thread, but here ya go:

I come to bury Strephon, not to praise him.
The evil that Humaniti does lives after it;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Strephon. The noble Dulinor
Hath told you Strephon was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Strephon answer'd it.
Here, under leave of Dulinor and the rest -
For Dulinor is an honourable Human;
So are they all, all honourable Humans -
Come I to speak in Strephon's funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Dulinor says he was ambitious;
And Dulinor is an honourable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Captial
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Strephon seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Strephon hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Dulinor says he was ambitious;
And Dulinor is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the Iridium Throne
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?
Yet Dulinor says he was ambitious;
And, sure, he is an honourable Human.
I speak not to disprove what Dulinor spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And Humaniti has lost its reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Strephon
And I must pause till it come back to me.

Here is my reply:

Grufty,
I bow down to your (M.) Supreme Hiverness. That 'Julius Cesar' bit was hysterical!

[Glisten] O that we had one ten-thousand of those sophonts on Mora that do no work today!

[Norris] What is he that wishes so? My Cousin Glisten?
No, my fair cousin.
If we are mark'd to die, we are enough to do our Splinter State loss;
And if to live, the fewer sophonts, the greater share of Honor!
By the Buddha of War, I pray you, wish us not one sophont of Mora more......
[end clip]

Ah, missed that, just been pointing folk to the thread and not realizing much was going on in it. Thanks for the copy Cap, and indeed kudos to Gruffty, very well done.
