This is Hard!

JFGarber

SOC-12
A character has Fighter-1 and Beams-1. Range to target is 2.

Does the "this is hard" rule apply? Do I add skills and knowledge or just use the broader skill?

I don't believe TIH! applies. A knowledge is just a type of skill that is added to the base skill.

SKILLS
One of the Assets for Tasks is Skills. Characters have skills representing their abilities in specific fields of endeavor. Each skill corresponds to approximately one year of education, training, or experience in that field.
Skills, Knowledges, and Talents. The general term Skill encompasses the more specific terms Knowledge and Talent.

Hmmm

TIH applies to tasks. Attacking is a Task so TIH applies.

However the asset here is S+K and range is not > range so no, it does not apply in this case.

I note the actual reference in TIH is to dice thrown, so if a 'snap shot' +11D, then maybe yes. See errata thread.

Clarifying, the Task Asset is C + S. S consists of all applicable skill ranks (Skills + Knowledges). TiH applies when the difficulty dice are greater than S.

If a task requires more dice than the character has applicable skill levels, then increase the difficulty one level.

But don't Skill and knowledge stack?

A Character with Engineer 1 and J Drive 1 working a problem on the J Drive uses C+S AND Knowledge so a 2 in this case as the target number for the dice roll.

Am I mistaken about this?
