CT Only: The Traveller Book - Print On Demand

Yey, I have it in my hand and it is perfect.

The book is slightly thinner than the original but there is no problem with the paper quality.

The print is crisp and clear and so far I haven't found a single error in reprographics.
Nice!

I had a moment of weakness and ordered a copy last week. Got a notification this morning that it had shipped.

Another order here. I don't have a copy from "back in the day"; I can't work from PDFs; and the LBB0-8 reprint is kinda unwieldy. (So there are my excuses.)

Hoping it reaches me in Hong Kong before my secondment ends...

I'm going to order one as well. The price is right. I have no real need of it other than...I just want it.

I snagged one for a couple reasons:
  • I wanted to see how the POD quality compared with my existing TTB.
  • I wanted a clean copy to have around the gaming table. I picked up my TTB from a Half Priced Books for $10, years ago. It's in decent shape, but does have some weird stains scattered around. Nothing major, just some grubbiness from a previous owner.

I got my TTB POD yesterday, and I'm really happy with it. Totally worth the money.

In terms of a review, I would note the following:
  • I'm really glad the cover is the classic black with a red line, like the LBBs. I saw the original TTB cover on the CD-ROM, and I wasn't thrilled.
  • Paper quality and binding quality seem good to me (I'm not a publisher or book fanatic, though). The pages are glued to the spine and not signature bound, but I think that's reasonable given the cost.
  • The front lower right corner of mine was slightly dented. Not a huge deal, but given the packaging I think this happened at the printer.
  • The biggest beef I have with the printing is the quality of the scans and the ink. It's not terrible (it's readable and not distracting), but the blacks are kind of washed out and the text is not crisp - it seems a little "muddied". I guess this is to be expected with scans of a 30+ year old book. The red ink was a nice touch, though. To be fair, I'm not sure if these are issues in the original book or not since I've never had one.

tl;dr - This is a great book, well worth the money. I have a couple of minor critiques on the printing, but nothing that would put me off buying it.

Hrm, must have been more than one edition of the "original". Mine has a painted cover by W.H. Keith Jr of some adventurers outside their ship - what I consider one of the iconic Traveller illustrations and always make sure to show new players to give an idea of the flavor of the setting.

The hardcover was black, with the red stripe, but usually had the dust jacket with the WH Kieth art.

The softcover had no dust jacket, but had the art on the cover.

Definitely think CT Supplement 4: Citizens of the Imperium should be added in as well. (And maybe some weapons from Book 4: Mercenary on the weapon tables). Otherwise: agreed.

I totally agree. I want to see a Classic Traveller that doesn't remake the entire game into something different. adding Supp4, weapons from Book 4, and college/academy/medical school from Book 5. To me that is "Classic Traveller" in a nutshell.

As I've noted in another thread, it should be easy, should Marc desire to do so, to publish a "remastered" version of CT, ALL FROM ALREADY-EXISTING MATERIAL (text and art). This would probably sell as well as MGT.

Well yes, I'm sure a lot of us would. But do you think that even such a small group as those of us reading this thread could all agree on what the contents should be?

Of course. We all agree on my opinions about what the contents should be. We've never had strong differences of opinion on that.

What?
