The Traveller Art Thread - Discussion

"Andrew... any small chance you might find time to render the ISS Norwegian Blue? Please!?"

Needs more work, but how's this so far?

Andrew that is terrific work! The only feedback I can think of is that the spherical head (forward section) could be a little smaller in comparison to the rear body.

I am going simply by the black and white sketch drawing that I saw in the Avenger PDF (of this same Fast Courier, of course).... and the forward sphere wasn't that big (altho it certainly stood out).

otherwise, the model looks great!

Scarecrow... it's got beautiful plumage! :D

By "right" size do you mean the same diameter as the deckplans? Because if that's what you went by that is a problem. There is a major disconnect between the picture and deckplans.

Your back end does look like the deckplans rather than the picture but to get the right ballpark volume you have to drop the spherical head for a disk or saucer head.

As a sphere of the diameter shown on the deckplans the head alone is about 168tons of what should be a 200ton ship. Making it a single deck disk of the same diameter drops it down to about 48tons and makes the whole thing come to within the 20% slop allowed at about 216tons total.

Bollocks.

You're right, either it needs to be a disk (in which case the sketch is wrong), or the sphere needs shrinking (in which case the plans are wrong).

I agree there is quite an inconsistency between the deck plans and the black and white picture that appears on the Avenger Enterprises PDF.

The B&W picture does make it clear that the forward head section is spherical, and not at all a saucer or disk. The deck plan shows that the forward spherical head is a single usable "deck", and the rest of the volume below the forward deck is fuel storage. Going on the deck plan, there indeed seems to be a lot of wasted space on the construction of this ship type.

Andrew:

Overall, I'm flexible. I'll be happy with an image that is "somewhat canon", meaning that if sizes and dimensions are fudged a little bit for the sake of aesthetics.... then it's all good to me.

As for any paint/texture job... any kind of "blue" accent would look good. I'll leave the final details to you.

Originally, a couple of my players wanted to name their ship after a "bird of prey". Then suddenly, the Monty Pythonistas amongst my players gained ground and insisted on the Norwegian Blue, named after the famous Monty Python 'Dead Parrot Sketch'. :D

Or they're both right, but different

I know, not much help. I for one would like to see your 3D take on a disk version to match the deckplans if that's not a major rework. I've already played with some deckplan reworks to fit into the sphere sketched version, which I guess I should share

btw Maladominus, love the name and it sounds like you have a fun bunch of players there. Hmm, there's a ship names thread around here somewhere that you should add that to...

Very nice work, Andrew!

That model is much more faithful to the actual deck plan.

I'm happy to use that model.... would it be too much to ask for some minor "detailing"? For example, the name of the ship, Norwegian Blue detailed on the hull.

I'm not sure what other kind of paint/texture accents would look good on the hull.

I'll finish the details now you're happy.

My avatar went AWOL when Hunter fiddled around with the system a couple of months ago, and I've not got around to changing it yet.

Andrew,
Excelent work. I hadn't been following this thread. My loss. That is the ship being used in my Klooge T20 Campaign by the Players. (well sort of, I don't want to give away any details because a few of my players frequent here but theirs is a prototype.
)
DO you do requests for color? Or can I get an obj file so I can texture it myself?

obj exports lose the textures; 3ds is better, but you'll still need to fix a few things manually. I'm happy to render it with a different paint job.

Back to the NB: what colour do you want the hull? The blue/grey I've been using, or the beige normally used for Scout ships? What views do you want? (There's no point detailing the rear if you don't want to see it)
