The Traveller Art Thread - Discussion

I use Blender (www.blender3d.org) for modelling and rendering, and I also export them as a Wavefront *.obj, import to Anim8or, then export from Anim8or as *.3ds, then import to Celestia, for which I've mapped the Spinward Marches...(stars only for the most part at this point)

Looks like Tom is using Terragen, if I'm not mistaken? That's a package that's come a LONG way since I first used it in 1998...

Well I have Blender which I havn't yet used. Plus Bryce 5 and Vue 3 which can take .obj files. Looks like I should have a go.

69m long by 58m wide for the main deck, five decks high - the proportions look about right.

The decks are roughly:

A - 95t
B - 172t
C - 296t
D - 215t
E - 113t
The last two have a lot of fuel tankage around them and are actually much larger, and I may have lost count somewhere, so take the numbers with a pinch of salt ;)

Does anyone know of a Traveller art gallery that actually has illustrations of people, creatures, NPCs, aliens?

Maybe a nice pic or two of a Vargr pirate band? Or maybe a K'kree warlord striking his best arrogant pose. Stuff like that. The very few pictures that comes from official GDW books leaves too much to the imagination.

Or hey... I'd settle for some decent pictures of Imp Marines in nice TL15 battledress armors.

Bah...

Watch the movie "Some Kind Of Monster" - the documentary of the recording of the St. Anger album.

I got the clear idea that "the old Metallica" (pre-y2k) was very much Vargr...with James and Lars being the Charismatic Leaders (who went head to head from time to time to see who was more dominant) and the other guys just sort of played along...

I think Vargr would be rock and roll. Most bands are centered aroudn a charasmatic leader and a creative mind. Rock bands break up they change members they go off and do solo albums etc. They are actually Vargr disguised as humans. I mena they have petty differences and throw away lucrative carreers.

Bryan Gibson has done people.

And Jesse DeGraff has drawn Ditzie in battledress (I think I'll link that image into the other thread).

Character modeling, texturing, and rigging can be a much more time-consuming task than building a ship. That's why you don't see as much of them in 3D outside of Poser forums & galleries.

As tools get better, and some lazy artists finally learn the process (I'm referring to myself, btw), you'll start to see more of it.

Jesse

Jesse, you're my hero for drawing Ditzie. I'm still practicing with pencil and paper...
