The Rebellion Redux

While the plot was more akin to Napoleon than Mao, the metaplot of Dulinor marching to Capital (which ended up releasing Virus) in Survival Margin is something along those lines.

You could have an alternate version of that - where Virus is never released and Lucan gets his ass whipped.

Or if you are into large scale fleet action, you could play a series of Battle Rider scenarios to work this out.

I was thinking more in the lines of Margret/Dulinor/Strephon desciding that "this sector isnogood, lets get out of here before my rear end is handed to me". So they take every flying ship and settle somewhere out of reach of the Japaneese&Chang-Kai-Check / Solomani&Lucan kinda plot.

edit: sorry Jim, I totaly missunderstood you, nevermind this post

No, actually it helped clarify your point - it sounds pretty interesting. Kind of like the Firefly backstory on a domain-wide basis, the proto-clans in Battletech, or the last mission of the Star Vikings in 1248.

In fact, I was thinking of something like this for a variant MTU. Have a group from a specific region pack up and leave in cold sleep or something, travelling ten years or so and starting up again in a completely unexpored area of space.

I'd pick up the story ten years or so afterwards, allowing time for intial planetary settlements and starport construction, government establishment, etc.

It's also a bit "Pocket Empires" i realise now. But unlike in PE, here the PC's are one of the many captains in the migrating fleet.

In a way, but more pocket empire than Long Night.

It would probably be closer to M:0 in that the main polity is young and small. The difference is that the planets all around are completely unexplored. This lets me generate them to my specs and not worry about stepping on the OTU, even when the data is bad.

Not a Long Night recovery as such, as the settlers will be bringing as much TL14-15 stuff as possible, but there will of course be luddites of various levels.

Hmm, the TNE World Tamer's Handbook could be a useful resource for this kind of setting - which I like the sound of, by the way.

Find a nice cluster of worlds that it requires drop tanks and deep space jumps to reach - possibly sacrificing some tankers on the way - and then establish your new pocket.

Funny you should write that, Sigg, it is what I have been looking through the last hour or so.

But the more I think about it, the more I like it as well, and may start writing it up in detail tonight. I mean, you can still mine ideas from the Imperium setting, as that is part of this society's history, but you can take it in a completely different direction, even doing away with the feudal aspects if desired, at least initially.

edit - you can also keep the classic ship designs, too. ;)

The biggest questions/problems become:
</font>
  • Picking the region/faction that this group comes from</font>
  • How many people?</font>
  • How many ships? And how large?</font>
  • When do they make this decision and when do they leave?</font>
  • Cold Sleep or generation?</font>
Also, if using TNE, how to introduce Virus (if even wanted)?

Stuff like this is why I love this board!
