The 'Conquest' - orbital gunnery / troop deployment vessel

Mickazoid

SOC-13
Here's the deckplans for a design I'm calling a 'Conquest'-class orbital drop/cannon support ship. Primary missions are troop inserts, low-orbit artillery and support. Lower deck is low berths, fuel, turrets and turret gangways, upper deck is crew quarters.

Thanks all!

Here are the Conquest's upper, main and lower levels (I haven't yet finished all the detail like hatches, ports, internal equipment, callouts, etc.) each in a zoomed scale.

Mick,

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....

The sound you just read came from a happy hard drive.

By the by, you now have your own folder in the Whipsandian CPU alongside such other luminaries as Employee-24601, Aramis, Scarecrow, Dan Burns, and WJP to name only a few.

Thanks for the GOOD stuff!

Have fun,
Bill

I like the assymetry as well. Too many designers try for the symmetric thing for no real purpose.

The Design is GORGEOUS!

OK, challenge moment... can you design something that uses the artificial gravity feature within the hull to have decks at different angles giving you improved living space perhaps?

Anyone else want to try it?

Thank you very much Bill, Plank, Black Globe, Baron! I love asymmetrical designs as well - they seem more 'purposeful', and I love how they have a certain 'character' as well. (I added zoom views and a complete key).

Plank - I've got an 'orbital platform' design a creepin' around in my head, with those kind of varying 'sea levels'. I'll draft it up in the days to come!

Ms Mickazoid:

me bows.

Outstanding work, young lady! Justly praised. What's the tonnage of this mean-lean-asymmetrical machine? Is it a rider, carried to battle, or is it jump-capable?

I liked the design and forget a somewhat stupid question, but I didn't see any specs as to if it is jump capable and if it is, what is it.

Hi guys! Thanks for the kind comments.

Not sure if it HAS to be jump-capable. It's got low berths, so I'm leaning to 'no' - but there's a lot of square footage dedicated on the blueprint for the drives. Fuel would be stored in the long plane starboard of the engineering section. I'd like it to be jump capable.

What's the current agreed-upon 'tons to squares' ratio? 1.5m x 1.5m x 1.5m = 2mt?

I haven't even cracked the HG spreadsheet, but I'll give it a whirl and folks are welcome to do the same! Let's come up with some nice stats!

I was thinking one common tactic would be a pair or trio of the ships, each acting to cover the others as one at a time they drop to low orbit, release their' troop shuttles (10 soldiers, 7 shuttles per ship) and when the shuttles have been retrieved, each returns to high orbit and resumes orbital barrage.

Hi folks. I gave High Guard a whirl. Here are the ship stats for a jump-capable 'Conquest' at an estimated displacement of 2400 tons. If anyone wants to take a peek and give me some advice, High Guard ship design was never my strongest suit:

Very nice.

It's reminiscent of the Games Workshop designs. If I remember correctly they put out a few assymetric designs in their "IISS Ship Files".

Once again, good work.

Ms Mickazoid

J-4/3G...TL-D. 2.4ktons, 80x LB'd troops.

I can definitely approve tactically the design as a support assault ship. Good for brushfire conflicts, probably in conjunction with say a Fighting Ships TA-7 Interdiction cruiser (as the flag) and a hand ful of these to swat & put down local fires in a diplomatically amber-red zone system!

I like the Fusion gun & High energy weapon support array (puts spot on the hot stuff without missiles being shot down & having to ship over reloads/ or magazine space).

I look to the heavenly abode of the Ancient's and pray aloud 'Can we adopt her?'...

Nice ship. Depending on the timeframe it is used in (it being TG-13 indicates T20's timeline) I could see a non-jumping "battlerider" version being adopted by the INS as an alternate.

Can't wait!

I always thought that most Starship designs do not take full advantage of the Artificial Gravity technology to maximize interior space usage.

In the Lone Star Thread there is a discussion going on about the Scout/Courier and how to design the 3 decks shown in the illustrations. What if the upper (half-sized Deck) was turned 90 degrees so that the person was standing with feet facing aft? AG would keep things comfortable and free up a lot of potentially wasted space there. Just a thought.

I am NOT a deckplan designer, my talents never went in that direction, but like fine wine and good music, I can appreciate the talents of others. YOU got talent!

Really? Why?

I'm not being snide, I just genuinely wonder what it is that impresses you about it. It's just a ring of seats.

Aww, they have a nice wraparound console too

And thanks everyone for the great feedback. I'm thinking about a TL11, jump-incapable 'rider' variant as a few folks mentioned.

Thanks again for the encouragement.

An early Battlerider TL-B would be a good thing, Ms Mickazoid, [ me nods.] The Jump-version could always come later, or use a jump-tug to get it to the system with the action.

Well then here it is!

I figure the aft upper and lower decks (where drive machinery is located) can be devoted solely to cargo and fuel (note the ~1000ton difference) with the 'jumpless' version. Thoughts?
