The Aramis Trace

rancke

Absent Friend
I was browsing the Traveller wiki when I came across an article about the Aramis Trace that read "The Aramis Trace is an astrographic cluster of Imperial systems located in the Rimward-Trailing corner of the Aramis Subsector in the Spinward Marches. Administration of the Trace worlds is handled through Pretoria (Deneb 0406)."

I was just about to edit this to change Pretoria to Celepina (or possibly Rhylanor), because as we all know, the Marquis of Aramis answers to the Count of Celepina (who answers to the Duke of Rhylanor). But then I noticed that one of the references cited was to MgT: Deneb. So now I'm wondering if MgTD really says that the Aramis Trace is handled from Pretoria? And if it does say so, how does it explain the relationship between the Marquis of Aramis and the Duchess of Pretoria?

MgT: Deneb Sector, p.23:
The Duchy of Pretoria (A)
The Duke of Pretoria has a moderate amount of power, with enough strength to dominate the Aramis Trace, patrol its Vargr border and fight some proxy battles against Inar in Lamas subsector. The Duke typically acts in cooperation with the Duke of Sabine. Affairs along the Aramis Trace are typically handled by Count Urnas.

MgT: Deneb Sector
, p.61-63
:
Marz (0201) A584985-A
. . . Marz is the gateway for traffic between the Pretoria subsector and the Aramis Trace in the Aramis subsector. . . .

Pretoria (0406) B656967-C
. . . Settled by Imperials around 300, today the world is the administrative centre for the subsector plus a number of worlds in the Spinward Marches. Dubbed the Aramis Trace, these
worlds are connected to Pretoria by way of the Xboat route through Marz (0201).
Those are the only references I can find.

What's the reference? Is it CT, MT, MgT or otherwise? If it's from GDW/FFE or inbetween, does that invalidate a conflicting reference from MgT?

What's the reference?

"The Marquis [of Aramis] owes allegiance to the Count Knowln of Celepina (in nearby Rhylanor subsector), who in turn owes allegiance to the Duke of Rhylanor..." [The Traveller Adventure, p. 35]
Also
"Duke Leonard, as subsector duke of Rhylanor, also administers the section of the Aramis subsector known as the Aramis Trace, including Aramis itself." [GT: Nobles, p. 18]

"Duchess Ramasawamy is the subsector duchess of Pretoria in the Deneb sector, but also administers the Towers Cluster, part of the Aramis subsector." [ibid.]

That depends on MgT. If they say it's a deliberate change, then what the latest statement says goes and previously published meterial has been invalidated. If they say it's a mistake and errata it, the PPM has been upheld and the new stuff invalidated.

"Pretoria is currently under Imperial Naval Rule as a result of the Rachelean Revolts of 1010 and 1011. Pretoria is also the only other world besides Pysadi/Aramis on which howood is known to grow - howood is renowned for its high mineral content and its natural aromatic smell."
_Travellers' Digest_, Issue #1, c.1100.

"The Imperium plans to relax martial law over the next 10 years, although some military intelligence analysts insist that the Rachele Society still exists..."
exerpt from Rachele Society library data entry, ibid.

That's all I've got, although I have a vague memory of a TAS entry saying the Imperium was handing back control. Maybe in _Survival Margin_?

Apparently, it should read The Towers Cluster, not the Aramis Trace. That's what Don says, anyway.
