Tech-Enchanced Education & Training

When I first started playing, the ref used something he called DNA training. It involved getting an injection and spending some time in some sort of machine. Then you rolled a die. 1 = you are unable to benefit from this training, 2 - 5 = level 1 in skill being trained (before level 0 concept was introduced),6 = level 2. You could only try any skill once by this method and there was an overall limit as to how many times you could use this method. I don't remember any other details. (He used it to give our party members, who were all beginners, needed skills to operate our ship.

To codify it, I would say TL 13 minimum, requires 8 hours of machine induced "sleep". 1 = no benefit. 2 or 3 = level 0, 4 or 5 = level 1, 6 = level 2. # of times it can be used = D6
(DMs -1 if first attempt roll = 1, 1- if endurance < 7, +1 if roll is 6, +1 if endurance = 10+, +1 if TL =15; giving a range of 1 to 9). Cost and avaliability - referee's call.

Andy,

<cut, paste, whirrr />

Hmmm, the TLs look right. The actual cost would probably be low. But the surcharge added on by the company to pay for "development charges" (100 years after release and continuing on . . .), would be substantial.

I think Cr50-100,000 per treatment. How many would be possible is highly campaign dependent. For MTU, I would say Max Usage = END, sinces it's a DNA based change.

Sounds a lot like the RNA injections of T20, which started at TL-12 [THB page 218-219.]. But its a cool variant I must say!

Kudos mr Fralix!

Am I the only one here who has read Heinlein's Space Cadet and thought that sleep-learning was pretty cool?

(Sleepy now, heading off to bed. I'll think more about it tomorrow.)

Mightn't that be like the sleep-tape learning techniques CJ Cherryh used in her Union series of books?

Me will knock off soon as well..and "sleep on it"! ;)

More details on Space Cadet please. I don't remember that one.
