Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
I wasn't ready for the survey questions that asked for a captain's name and a ship's name, so I punted and picked Harlock and Arcadia (some of you might be familiar with these names).
Threw me too, though it shouldn't have. But I had some options: Over the years I've intermittently run 'solo games' in my head … one for a character called Joseph Hemdian (first baron of Yori when that world joined the Imperium), one for a character called William Durrant (Duke of Patu, Core), and one in which I self-inserted myself (as a knighted xenobiologist from Yori). Anyway, currently 'me' has leased a Beowulf called the Lucky Duck and captained by Ian Caro (I know a Safari ship would have made more sense but there wasn't one available) and that's what I went with.
Now that I read it, that sounds just a tiny bit crazy.
Yeah, I usually end up playing Scouts when I get to play, so used a random name generator until I found a name I liked, then looked for interesting ship names. I need to read more of those Culture books: I had forgotten the fun the author had in coming up with ship names! Anyways, the name seemed fitting to a possibly somewhat shady Free Trader.
I suspect that calling an Aslan a Kitty is a social offense that might get you killed in a formal duel. Impinging on the honor of an Aslan is usually unwise.
Captain's name redacted as it's a variant of my own name.
Ship:Empress Elize
There is canonical precedent in the Third Imperium for naming Far Traders after Empresses. However, only a Solmani would name his ship after the last Emperor of the unified Rule of Man...

His yacht is the Threedie (short form of Dalthor's Defiant Destrier) and for reasons unknown he has a thing for olde Earth horses. It all started with something called a movee or some such, where men in metal clothes rode them and used massive toothpicks on each other.
Dalthor's Pecunious Palamino is his mobile bank...he is definitely odd.
I do have a modified 600 ton subsidized merchant in a story that I am working on named the Roving Minstrel, captained by Michael de Ruyter. I am not sure what Marc might use, as I did not fill out the Kickstarter survey.
That was some time ago and I forgot what name I went with, I think my own because ego. Ship though is Reznor's Promise as I recall. But it honestly was something I filled out and sent off.
