Is the T4 Naval Architect's Manual .pdf worth getting? I'm looking at doing my own deckplans and I wonder how well illustrated it is and how well the illustrations are in the .pdf. I've seen several hard copies go for more then I was willing to pay over the years.
I would have to go pull it out to make sure, but isn't this the one with the large amount of deckplans?
If so, I think the graphics and deckplans were very, very poor.
The art, while nice, is not Traveller in my opinion. It's the usual T4 art, I don't recall the skilled artist's name. If you like the other T4 art, then perhaps you will like the sketches of the ships.
The deckplans were very poorly done. If you want the manual for deckplans, skip it. You could do better with some graph paper and a pencil.
Where are you getting it in .pdf? Isn't the entire T4 collection on CD over at FarFuture.net? I would think that'd be cheaper in the long run unless you have the rest of the collection already.
Classic Traveller is available on CD.
The JTAS is available on CD.
MegaTraveller is available on CD.
TNE, and T4 Traveller CDs are still future releases.
The Third Party (like FASA) Traveller CD has disapppeared from the FFE site (so it has been killed as a project or the site just has an 'OOPS'.)
If it's the one I'm remembering that was one of the things that leaped out at me too. That and the rather plain and poor look of most of the "plans". Not the kind of quality I was hoping for at the time. The cover was a grabber, I could hardly wait to to it on the shelf at the time it was released. I opened it in great anticipation, and could hardly believe what I saw. Boring plans. Different scales, dependent on the size of the area shown it seemed. So a full page plan of a small area was a different scale than a full page plan of a large area. In other words I couldn't just use pages (copied for my own use) next to each other to create larger plans. At that point I couldn't wait to put it back on the shelf.
