T20 Tachikoma (Mecha Vehicle Test)

clementk

SOC-14 1K
From a post on the Mechs in Traveller idea thread I'm going to try modeling the Tachikomas from Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex. Now I'm not that much of a Traveller gearhead but this is more proof of concept than anything else.

Feel free to contribute. Some pics of the Tachikomas are found in the post linked above. I don't have a lot of technical data on them currently but have vol. 1 of the DVDs and the manga, which has the previous model.

Dexterity of Appendages 12
Winches 1
Strength of Winch 30

TL 15 Cammo, the cameras have infrared and light intensification.

Each appendage has a gauss rifle built into it with 4 clips. I wanted to have one hold a RAM grenade launcher but the T20 vehicle spreadsheet was returning a !VALUE result. >.< Also I could only choose from non-vehicle weapons for appendages. I think I'll have to do the detail stuff on a custom sheet or something and use the T20 vehicle spreadsheet for testing main options.

No provision for the AI yet as that's a seperate spreadsheet but the vehicle end is set up for it. This will likely need EP changes and I might have to increase the vl some. Right now it's the same vl as a ground car. 4 wheels are part of the design but I'm not certain how to model the Tachikomas having 4 legs with wheels on them. For the moment I'm just going with 4 legs for the drive train.

The vehicle's based on the Tachikoma AI vehicles in Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex. The goal is a self aware light mini-tank capable of carrying one person for use in police and similar work.

In the show they're armed usually with I believe a mini-chain gun in one arm and a GL in the other, though I need to rewatch the episodes as there's a "mouthpiece". Two tangle shooters (hence the spiderbot nickname) which I've not modeled yet and a winch.

One thing I've not modeled yet is how agile these things are. They can pivot on a dime and hop up on house roofs then jump from building to building. I had to go with TL15 :( for the AI. I may try a AI-less version to see how low TL I can make this.

Casey (or I may just model it all in BESM ^_^ )

Someone else sent me an update to the T20 Vehicle Spreadsheet a month ago, I hadn't gotten around to posting it up.

[EDIT: That was just adding in hypersonic/supersonic chassis types]

Well the cell in question did a lookup from a range IIRC. <shrugs> No real big to me at the moment as this design may just not be able to be modeled in T20 as is. Still it was a little odd to me that in the spreadsheet appendages can't have anything other than personal weapons in them.

UPDATE - though I'll still do the next pass in the latest version

Which will be for a while as I've yet to watch my Ghost in the Shell : SAC DVD 1 again, which I really should do before the next pass.
