Suerrat for T20

sinbadsam

SOC-12
OK in the article in JTAS # 26 written by John Snead, Suerrat are 1.6m and 60kg. Relatively long arms, somewhat prehensile feet.

Relative large eyes. Color hazel brown to dark brown.

Excel at biological sciences, biology and medicine. Very ecological oriented.

Like pets and care of same.

Few Nobles, Agents and Marines.

Skin color light brown to blue black, fur colors from red orange to black.

Stats in the article are +1 Str, +2 Dex and -1 Soc and had Athletics.

So for T20 stats I would place them at +2 Str, +2 Dex and -2 Soc. Still do not know about the Dex stat, keep it at +2 or bump it up to a +3 or +4.

Racial Feats: Acrobatics

Racial skills: +2 Jump, Balance, Climb, K/Herb Lore, K/Pharmacology and Handle Animal.

Eyesight has low light vision.

Any inputs?

The stat bonus is broken. +2 Str and +2 Dex is too much when the only penalty is -2 Soc (which most people treat as their dump stat).

Well if you look Str is a dump stat also,,,how many skills use it? melee and ranged weapons use Dex. In some melee weapons it helps abit, but its main use is carrying things.

To me in T20, the hard core stats are Dex, Int and Edu.

Str is a dumpstat for certain characters. However, although the rules say Dex modifies melee attacks, I personally think this should only apply in certain circumstances. I allow as a house rule Str to modify melee attacks depending on the type of 'style' the character has trained in. A boxer (Str) vs a judoka (dex).

Note that the Aslan get a bonus to Str but a penalty to Dex and in the case of males, a penalty to Wis. (I think male Aslan are broken. They should get a bigger bonus to Str IMO, to be stronger than their females as well as typically stronger than humans) The Vargr for example get a bonus to Dex but a penalty to Str and Con, which I also think is wrong (I give Vargr a bonus to Wis to offset the penalty to Con - Vargr are supposed to be cunning and alert)

And I think SOC is usually treated as a dumpstat more than STR.

I'd like to say I can help you further, but I don't know anything about the Suerrat. I was just commenting that as-is, the two bonuses offset by a single penalty is unbalanced. Game balance isn't a big issue, but it can be to min-maxers and munchkins. If someone like that saw a minor race that had +2 Str and +2 Dex and only a -2 to Soc? He'd jump on it like... like... something that jumps. You know what I mean.

You could make the Soc penalty -4 to really point out these guys are bottom-of-the-rung in society's eyes.
