Striker!

SOC-10
OK, so I finally pulled the trigger on Striker. I've had the rules since 1986, but never assembled and painted forces for the game. Today I ordered my first miniatures to put together a TL12 platoon. I discussed it with a buddy, and I might even have a chance to play non-solo games!

More info as it develops.

I ordered some "Earth Force Marines" from Rebel Minis. More than I need, but it will allow me to field three squads with three fire teams each with some platoon-level support options as well. If (and that is a BIG if right now) I can the whole platoon painted, I'll buy an opposition platoon when the time comes.

Well, this went bust. I a trying to get my money back from Rebel Minis through PayPal since there has been no product and no communication. Once I get my refund, I'll order some minis from Khurasan.

Good for you! I liked Striker because of the interesting and realistic command system - you don't directly control your units like you do in other wargames (see everything, control everything) - you instead issue standing orders that the squads will follow BEFORE the battle starts and your troops then do their best to achieve them, quite often dispite how innapropiate they are once they encounter the enemy. You can attempt to change orders mid battle, but it can take a few turns to do so (bigger orders take longer to pass on), depends a lot on the communication method (radio jammers are really useful), as well as the quality of the troops - green recruits will often either freeze, run away or ignore the changes and follow the previous orders to the letter dispite what the actual reality on the ground is (ie "Take the hill" while not aware an enemy panzer battalion is guarding it). Elite units on the otherhand, while usually outnumbered and outgunned by the cheaper hordes of green troops, can often run rings around their untrained opponents. Fog of war also plays a big part, with a unit only reacting to what it alone can see, not what YOU can see happening on the other side of the table/battlefield. It can result in some very confusing, frustrating, but interesting and realistic situations.

Ok, I just twigged on your issues. Gonna ask the usual suspects for news.
Short answer, they aren't the best at customer service. As such I don't have a direct in to them, but I dropped a bug into the ear pf people who know him.

Late to the party here, but I've never played Striker before. It seems pretty complex but intriguing. Would love to do it in 1/285 scale (6mm).

IMO it’s worth it just as a game unto itself. Important for Traveller heritage as it solidified the standard tech memes for heavy ground weapons going forward.

Just….. be prepared for vehicle design. It can cause self-clawing of eyeballs until you get it.

Good to give it a try, and plenty of people here to help with any queries.

At 6mm figure scale you'll have the challenge of removing infantry casualties (while Striker uses 4-figure fireteam bases as its standard unit it insists on individual casualty removal). You could try mounting your 6mm figures individually, or resort to using off-table unit rosters to keep track of casualties along with some sort of markings on each stand so you can identify them.

The challenge of vehicle/heavy weapon creation is made a lot easier with a spreadsheet. I posted my one in the files section here many moons ago, let me know if you can't find it. There are also plenty of Striker designs done by members of CoTI over the years posted in various threads here.

Good information to have, so thank you!

Ah yes, Striker vehicle design. I did a little in high school and college. It was a little tough until my dad introduce me to Excel spreadsheets and their capabilities to do various operations. I was able to recreate several TL6 (WW2) vehicles using the system.

I will need to try a casualty marking system, especially in 1/285 scale.
