All RPGs have them, stereotypes, conventions, similar situations that tend to pop up regularly in actual game play. So does the old 2300 AD universe too, and they are not necessarily always bad... if the referee knows they are stereotypes and conventions and is able to play around with them.
To start off the discussion I'll name one: there is always a deranged person on board of a spaceship or an enclosed space that is bringing the plot forward through sabotage.
