One diversion that's common to Traveller games is statting up characters from SF novels.

If you're wanting something to do, then here's an opportunity. Take one of the pulp SF characters, golden-era characters, SF heroes, fiends, and memorables, and stat them up using T5.

As far as I can tell, all you do is map the character's details into a T5 character. Name, age, UPP, most likely career, probable skillset and levels, possessions, and so on. Follow that with a couple lines of clarifying text, and jack's a doughnut.

Example characters that I can think of off the top of my head include:

Earl Dumarest
Priscilla "Hutch" Hutchins (Engines of God, Chindi, Omega)
Baslim the Cripple (Citizen of the Galaxy)
Thor Bradley Rudbek (Citizen of the Galaxy)
Leda Weemsby (Citizen...)
Kartr, and Zinga (Star Rangers)
The crew of the Solar Queen (e.g. Dane Thorson)
Kimball Kinnison, Lensman
Dr. Juna Bayel (Itself Surprised)
James Bolivar DiGriz (the Stainless Steel Rat)
Gil Hamilton (ARM)
Beowulf Shaeffer
Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley
Any character from Firefly
Jon Iehard (Starhammer)
Honor Harrington

Some of Jack Vance's heroes:

Kirth Gersen
Magnus Ridolph
Adam Reith

Any of the principals of Babylon 5
Jet, Faye, and Spike (Cowboy Bebop)
Corben Dallas (Fifth Element)
The Bride (or any of the other oddballs who don't survive Kill Bill)
John Grimes (rank and title varies)
Logan 5
The principals of Farscape

I'll attempt Hutch, from Jack McDevitt's series of books.

Priscilla Hutchins ("Hutch"), Pilot Spacer (R4), 587887, age 34, 4 terms, KCr 28.

Athlete-1, Gunner-2 (Bay Weapons-1, Spines-1), Medic-1, Pilot-2 (Spacecraft ACS-2), Programmer-1, Sensors-6.

A reluctant hero, a balance of boldness and insecurity, doing what is necessary. She is a pilot for the "Academy", a xeno-archaeological organization. She has to struggle with administration that doesn’t support proper funding wanting to do it on the cheap.

Here's Craig's Logan 5:

Logan 5 (movie), Law Enforcer, 88885C/0, age 30, 3 terms.

Premium Synthetic, Marking: Crystal, Control Code: Aging, Cost: MCr 4.1. Hobbies: Art, Dancer.

Admin-2, Art-1, Athlete-3, Computer-3, Comms-3, Dancer-2, Fighter-3 (Unarmed-2, Beams-2), Forensics-6, Science: Psychology-2, Stealth-3, Streetwise-4, Tactics-4.

Once the pride of his unit, a skilled hunter of law breakers, he is thrust by his employer into a deep cover operation that goes badly wrong. Now he is the hunted and his former friends and co-workers want him dead. Soon he must choose between his mission and trying to clear his name or learning the truth kept from him by his former employer.

First off....

Dear Sir/[o]Madam[/o],

I corrected your erroneous rank for Flight Officer Ripley.

Company records clearly indicate that RIPLEY, E. is registered as the Flight Officer of USCSS NOSTROMO holding the rank of Warrant Officer.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Human Resources,
Weyland-Yutani.

Honestly, The Fireflies ought to be easy...except for the Referee's SO character, she's is sort of PITA to stat out with her weirdo psionics.

Mal, 2 Terms Soldier, R4, 1 Term Rogue.
Zoe, 2 Terms Soldier, R3, 1 Term Rogue.
Wash, 3 Terms Scout, 1 Term Rogue.
Kaylee, 1 Citizen, 1 Rogue. (Starts LS-3)
Jayne, 1 Term Agent, 3 Terms Rogue.
Book, Top Secret, why do you ask? (Guessing like a good 7 Terms Agent, many Commendations, from what I hear both sides of the little war.)
Simon, 3 Terms Education, 1 Term Citizen. (Starts Edu at LS-3)
River, 1 Term Education, 2 Psionic/1 Term Agent.
Inara, 2 Entertainer, 2 Agent.

If I get super uppity I could do them all the way I think, but then I would have to watch the series again and my computer is being old.

Farscape, now that is fun. Hmmm, might have to look into that one as opposed to doing it off the top of my head. The Fireflies are easy, they are sooo CT characters. Farscape is a bit more complex since the human is so outclassed other than those lovely Intuitions. Oh, yeah John Criteon, PhD, Astronaut, and Wormhole "Expert" pretty much survives on Curiousity, Insight and just plain Luck.

Dangnabbit, Rob, don't I have enough damned projects?

Just because.

This is not the Logan 5 of the book, he is much cooler. Lose some points from things like Admin and give him SlugThrower instead of Beams, bump the Unarmed to 6, and he needs Survival and Driver-1 (Grav-2). As I recall but that was so many many years ago. Anyway, I figured I would do the one most people are familar with and let some superior nerd do the book one.
