Starting skill points

Hi there,

Just noticed that in the class descriptions, the Starting Skill Points paragraph is NOT consistent.

I believe this is a typo. Some classes have a sentence specifying that a first level character only should receive these skill points instead of a first level in the class.

Those having the sentence are :

Academic, p. 36
Mercenary, p. 46
MErchant, p. 48
Noble, p. 52
Professional, p. 54
Rogue, p. 56
Traveller, p. 60

I do not know if this is voluntarily or not. Or if it does indeed mean that the other classes get the x4 skill points. In my game, they won't in any case, but first level of character.

Might be worth correcting in the next revision.

Allo.

Take a look at the errata document here this was corrected (far as I know though I've not seen ) in the latest printing of the THB.

Starting skill points apply *only* at the character's first level, regardless of the class choosen.

from the 3.5 d20 SRD :

“Character level” is a character’s total number of levels. It is used to determine when feats and ability score boosts are gained.
“Class level” is a character’s level in a particular class. For a character whose levels are all in the same class, character level and class level are the same.

So the Starting Skill points (x4 entry) is for the first *character* level only (and only then) and should be applied no matter the class chosen.

I've got the updated printing and I know what the SRD states.

I am just signalling an obvious thing that should be corrected in the next printing if there is one

Well I indicated I don't have the 2nd printing of the Traveller's Handbook nor have I seen one so I assumed it was corrected in the 2nd printing.

and this
"I do not know if this is voluntarily or not. Or if it does indeed mean that the other classes get the x4 skill points. In my game, they won't in any case, but first level of character."

sounded to me like you weren't sure which way to go given your copy of the THB so I attempted to help, backing it up with a quote from the SRD to help clarify things.

Yes it would be good to have it consistantly printed whichever way they decide. ;)
