I think that's the word Adam Savage uses.
That's what Mark Hamill called them when describing the bits on ships in Star Wars in one interview.

An odd hypothetical question from me.
If Mongoose Publishing decided to have Traveller 2e translated into Japanese and sold in your country, would you be interested and willing to be one of the artists for the book (assuming that the compensation was acceptable)?

The Fer-de-lance-class destroyer escort consists of four blocks. In the bow block, a control bridge and living compartments are arranged. Behind it is a central hull block with cargo hold, a hangar, a jump drive and fuel tanks. On both sides, there are drive blocks with maneuver drives and powerplants installed. Six laser turrets are arranged to concentrate firepower in the bow direction. After Block III, an armored hull was adopted, and the bow block was changed from a spherical shape to a more constructable polygonal shape.Attachments
To answer seriously, first of all, I am very happy about the creation of the Japanese version. Next, regarding the use of my illustrations, I feel honored. There is no need for compensation for the use of my previous works. On the other hand, I have only drawn parts of spaceships, and my speed of creating artwork is not suitable for commercial purposes. Also, my art style is unique, so I think it would be difficult to adjust the balance with the wonderful collection of Mongoose's works.
I think in many cases they should adjust theirs to match yours.

The bow block has a three-layer structure. On the top A deck, the bridge, officer's staterooms, common room, missile guidance equipment, various communication equipment (radio waves, lasers, masers, a meson), environmental control equipment, etc. are arranged. On deck B, various sensors (EMS, mass density, neutrinos), two triple beam laser turrets, airlocks, NCO’s staterooms, and common room are located. On the C deck, there are NCO’s and Marine’s staterooms, emergency low berths, and missile guidance equipment. Fuel tanks are arranged around each deck.Attachments

Or the same pronunciation as dog barking (bow wow) or a tree branch (a bough).

sometimes listen to how other languages and cultures pronounce how a dog barks or a cat meows. I always find it interesting how other languages & cultures do things.

Best multi-lingual pun I ever heard using one of these was a protagonist character "analyzing" the fighting style of a known antagonist character who had "dog like" personal characteristics. The multi-lingual pun was ... WAN PATTAN ... which could either mean "dog bark pattern" (japanese) or "one pattern" (english), describing the predictable moves the antagonist character tended to make in fights.
