COMMENTS
The Starlifter Mod. 2 mainly differs from the Mod. 1 by retaining the original military sensor suite and computer fitting, having one heterogeneous turret fitted, adding a fuel purifier and adding a small crew stateroom for the gunner needed to man the turret. This does cut into the cargo tonnage available, but allows the Starlifter to qualify as a Mail Auxiliary, and is considered worth the peace of mind for many frontier captains. Many canny merchants make up the tonnage loss by carrying higher value cargos. Due to her unique heritage and design the Starlifter is capable of delivering specialty cargoes anywhere she can land. This also enables her to undertake special delivery contracts, including underway and remote replenishment duties as an auxiliary. It is the rare unmotivated and incompetent captain who cannot make the Starlifter a profitable ship design.
