Starcraft II

StarCraft ~ the continuing saga

As you might have seen some of my earlier posts/threads, I'm using the StarCraft creatures to cause havoc and mayhem on the fringe areas of the Imperium and the tech-ideas to counter the threat.

Former adversaries form new alliances, previous enemies resurface in a bid for power, and the borderlands have become the front lines against the Zerg forces . . .

With the advent of Starcraft II how about we try and make something for it?
Sure, why not?

Loose tangential thought here; it's interesting how Starcraft came about. Just as warcraft was a sendup of the Fantasy Genre done in a computer game, so it was with Starcraft and all its sci-fi references. WC2 continued the trend, but WC3 seems to have lost some of its farcical roots.

I'm just curious how SC2 is going to turn out.

*EDIT* Not sure I'll play anything more than the demo. My time is pretty limited these days.

I'd be very interested in how you set up the technologies in Traveller terms as I am thinking of doing something like this myself.

Tech in Traveller

Ghosts: Special Operations Forces
Cloak (Personal)
Tech Level: 13
Generates Field of Energy/Limited Area of Effect/Limited Duration (10 min)
Lockdown
Tech Level: 12
Incapacitates Electronic Devices

Goliaths: Armored Battle Walker
Tech Level: 12
With reverse-jointed legs, the twelve-foot tall Goliath features all-terrain maneuverability and a computer-based heavy weapons system. The Goliath is equally adept at providing both ground level and anti-air support. Goliath armament consists of twin anti-armor 30mm auto-cannons on the arms which fire explosive shells and Hellfire-AA scatter missiles. While the Imperium uses Goliaths primarily aerial targets, they still pose a great threat to infantry.
Charon Boosters
Tech Level: 13
Improved propulsion technologies via Charon Boosters and upgrades to existing targeting system software, significantly increased a Goliath's range via its Hellfire missiles.

The cloak that ghosts have is much smaller than starship grade ones because it's psionically powered. Maybe 1 minute per power point?

New Psionic Power:
Psi Blade- throw 12+ to learn
throw 12+ to level up
requires Kyhadrin Crystals to use

not sure how that works

Samules,

Please provide a bit more context, as your item seems to lack pertinent details to determine if this is a useful item. Intuitively, it seems appealing, but I need a bit more.

Thanks,

I can answer that. There's a race in SC called the Protoss. They are based upon the Skinnies from Starship Troopers, but loosely and much more butt-kicking.

They have two Psionic traditions, and one uses these crystal blades attached to gauntlets as weapons.

Protoss ~ know them well

Disco Soup,

I appreciate the post, but I'm actually well-aware of the Protoss and their fancy gadgets. In my post, I was merely asking how his blades worked in a game mechanic sense. The numbers 1-9 corresponded to...nothing, and then you have xD as a 'level effect.' I like the idea, mind you ~ I'm just not sure how it works.

Cheers,
Fox's Master
