Spread of the Virus during the 1100s

I was recently looking at the map for Charted Space in 1248 in the Out of Darkness book, and it struck me that there was an inclusion of the Hierate there that was absolutely enormous compared to the other starnations. Earlier TNE maps had it blacked out like most other starfaring societies.

Was the Hierate knocked out like the rest of them? If so did it recover far faster than the rest to be the size it is on that map? If it wasn't knocked out how did it survive the virus when the rest of known space, including the Hivers, collapsed?

That's a bit of a misunderstanding. The map says "Aslan Hierate Region", which - to quote a posting by myself from ages ago - can be translated as "here be Aslan... virus'ed back to the stone age!"

The text makes it quite clear that the Aslan Hierate collapsed like everybody else except for special snowflake Deneb. To quote the same posting by yours truly, those black box transponders apparently were a real export hit for the Imperium.

Thanks guys - had to go back and re-read some of that which I'd missed skimming those couple of pages of history.
