Sophont Caste characteristic value

On the back of the Sophont Creation Card there's a section to record the caste name next to each value from 2 to 12. This implies that the roll to determine C6 also automatically determines caste (and maybe gender). Conversely, if one selects the sophont's caste and gender, then the C6 value is determined automatically without a die roll.

Do you think I've interpreted this correctly?

This is correct. The value of C6 depends upon the race. For humans it is Social Status. For Vargr it is Chrisma. For a race with castes the C6 roll determines the Caste and in some cases also gender.
