Money transfer between the stars:

The Hawala and Hundis systems of money transfer sound like something that might very well work in the Traveller universe. Today they are fast using telephones but back in the days of their inception they used Karawans. So X-Boats might work

Trading organisations:

How about somethink like the Hanseatic League or the East India Company Could something like this exist in Traveller with it's MegaCorporations?

If I understand it correctly, Hawala sounds like the credit card system, but without the credit cards? The money's all "virtual" in the sense that it just exists as a running tally on paper?

(and do you mean "Caravans", rather than "Karawans"?)
