So if the core book is late....

Does that mean all the others will be late too? I notice the manuscript for the book on the Ley Sector is due this month. If the Core book is so late, and BEING April, I doubt any work has been done on it lately.

Is there a snowball's chance it will be on time for June?

James is writing the Ley sector book; we're doing the core rules. Hopefully he's less behind than us, and if not it's not because the core book is late...

Well, THAT'S a relief. If the core rules can be out by May, and the sector book by June, then that's good timing. The sector book shouldn't need lots of playtesting, just starmaps, planet profiles and history. Lots of that is already part of OTU canon, so there shouldn't be much raw creating, just presentation (although THAT's the hard part).

Add a few adventure hooks and you've got a great product!

Hopefully...

I don't know, in my experience the hard part is the proofing and editing, judging from the amount of corrections for erratum and corrigendum that seem to follow (or often should but don't - "If we don't fix it, it ain't broke!").
Better that the product is a little slow to the printer (and hence the stores) so a good editor (someone with a first language skill beyond a basic vocabulary and a good knowledge of the material, ideally) can insure a quality product.

See, even this needed a better proof-read, I typed faster than I could spellcheck and made a silly error

At times it seems poor Hunter gets overloaded by barrages of stuff from the playtesters... we tend to attack in waves...

To get an idea of *why* the product is late, simply look at the post-counts for the playtest subs... and watch how they climb.

By golly, we'll miss some things, but boy, we've sure tried to help guide MJD & Hunter's view of MWM/Avery's vision toward a consensual view. And maintain some goodies which will be useful not just for T20, but can be back-ported easily and effortlessly into other editions. And while the ship designs won't be Bk 5, you'll easily be able to use them in Bk 5 combats & MT combats. And they're bloody close to Bk 5.

And, no, not everyone involved in playtesting is happy with all aspects, but everyone involved with my group has things they like about it to some degree or another. (Shadowbear, I think you've the least. But isn't ship design spiffy now?

And they're pretty diverse.

I've been doing just that the whole time to get a feel for how thoroughly each subject is being "tested". Its also been comforting to see the playtest subs remain active even when the open board fell silent at times, it meant work was going on and the product was in fact moving forward. So I'll maintain my patient watchfulness, it can't be long now...

Speaking of which, is there any further idea on when/if the playtest forums would be openned for general perusal? I'm always most interested in HOW things come about, especially things I like. And I like Traveller a great deal.

Good. Fast. Cheap.
Pick two.

I kind of got the idea from Hunter's (non) reply to that particular thread that it would be a potential nightmare. I'd still like a look behind the curtain too but I can live with the decision. If MJD reads this I wasn't here, this is simply my AI checking the boards, I'm hard at work, really,
