Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
I'd assume you'd need to use the regular ship-maker and then reference the beta smallcraft maker for the missing parts? Anyone care to provide some examples or fill me in on the process?
Nerhesi, as to your original question: yes, I have designed many small craft, using the Beta system. My main goal was to suggest values that would make the resulting designs extremely close to those from Classic Traveller, Book 2; in effect, to BE the small craft design system for both T5 and CT.
Quite the opposite. Marc's omission of the beta small craft maker gave me the opportunity of pitching small craft via ACS.
The beta maker is fine, don't get me wrong. But, sometimes a small craft is a vehicle, and sometimes it is more like a spacecraft. I am primarily thinking in terms of armor, but if small craft can be built with ACS, then I think we have a fundamental split in purpose, as well.
Thanks Robject - so am I to understand, the smallcraft maker treats all smallcraft as vehicles not spacecraft?
Does that affect the end product in terms of fighter/smallcraft robustness? and which presents results closer to any of the examples provided in T5 (Should they even exist...)

The Beta produces versions quite close enough to CT Book 2. However, if they indeed are vehicles, then armor is insignificant for space combat. Additionally, weapons may well be a problem. Beta didn't say if armor was vehicular or spacecraft-rated.
