Snapshot move rules questions

Masconi

SOC-9
Hello!

Maybe someone can help me with a few Snapshot rules questions (1979 edition).

1.
Can I mix the different movement actions within one turn, OR must I decide at the start of a characters turn, which movement mode to use?

Example:
My characters turn starts. He has 15 Action Points (AP):
He runs 3 squares forward (2 AP, Run), then he makes a sidestep (2 AP, Normal Move),
then he sneaks 2 squares forward (6 AP, Evade Move), then he again runs 3 squares forward (2 AP, Run),
and finally he sneaks 1 square forward (3 AP, Evade Move). His turn ends.

Is this mixing of different movement modes allowed?

Does the character get a -3 DM when attacked in his final position, because his last move was an Evade movement action?

2.
The rules state that "an individual may run (forward only) at a cost of 2 AP per 3 squares":

Does "forward only" mean only straight ahead (orthogonally) or can I run diagonally forward too?

Thanks!

I have the 1979 edition, 9th printing

1. It mentions changing between movement and other actions during a turn so why not different types of movement? I would allow it.

If they were attacked during or after their run movement and not interrupted and attacked at some other point in their turn then yes they should get the -3 DM.

2. Good question. I would say forward or diagonal (personally at 1 AP per square) but NO turns allowed.

I also have Azhanti High Lightning, FFE edition copyright 1980 9th printing. There is no running, just trotting which uses more APs and diagonal travel is allowed so I would say use 2. above. In AHL all figures have 6 APs while in Snapshot they have from 6 (minimum never less) to 24 or even 30. Also in AHL you must choose your action and cannot mix them. Stated time and "ground" scale is the same so obviously no running on Navy ships and the need for military conformity means everyone works at the rate of the slowest member of the crew! I think a bunch of Snapshot characters attempting to take over an AHL ship would clean up.

I can see the argument for both.

I imagine as written, the rules may have meant for you to select one "mode" of movement per turn. Other "actions" would be firing, standing up, dropping down to prone, etc., etc..

However, if you and your opponents all agree, then I see no reason for you not to be able to change modes of movement if you prefer, as you state in your original question. You'll need some way of marking or keeping track of the figures' current/last moves though, if you have more than just a few in action.

Also, if playing on squares, and using diagonal movement, you might want to charge the move points at 1.5X. Many rules do that.

If you're using hex-based move maps, that won't be needed.
