Snapshot animals

The counters for Snapshot include 5 different animals--two bug-type things, a six-legged octopus, a giant worm, and a multi-legged cat thing.

Were these animals ever named/described anywhere?

I recognise 3 from the Spinward Marches

Tree Kraken (or land squid) from Forboldn.
Garan's Leech from Victoria.
Sea Bear from Thengo

I'll need to think harder for the other ones.

I think those were the only three ever properly identified. (Probably because they looked the most "realistic").

I believe the giant (and it is truly gigantic) worm's ecological niche was "large desert world", so I suspect we can figure out its inspiration.

Jtas

JTAS #1 Tree Kraken: Forboldn but have made it to several low gravity worlds. 6kg

JTAS #2 Garan's Leech: Victoria only, 200-300 grams with occassional at 2kg

JTAS #3 Sea Bear: Thengo but exported to Jewell, Lianic & Massina subsectors so pretty common. Dog sized, 20-25kg.

BGG members can see countersheet here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/580473/snapshot?size=original

The Mantis probably inspired the non-insectoid Springer in JTAS#9.

The Ant ??????

I suspect the ant may be an early inspiration for the bugs in Chamax Plague/Horde.

A response from Marc:

"Some (if not all) were defined in the Bestiary in JTAS.

Garan's Leech 02-27 was the giant worm
Land Squid or Tree Kraken 01-05 was the octopus
Sea Bear 03-28 was the multi-legged cat thing

I frankly don't remember if the two insect things were ever defined."
