[Shipyard] March R-DA11 Subsidized 'Fat' Trader

Merchant R-DA11 March Class Type-R MCr95.3

The March Class Subsidized Merchant is a common sight across the Third Imperium. Built on a TL 13, 400 ton Airframe hull, the ship has Drives and Plant-B, giving Jump-1 and 1G of accelleration. Fuel tankage is provided for one Jump-1 and one month of operations. Fuel scoops and water intakes are available for wilderness refuelling. Two hardpoints are available but no weapons are installed.

The ship operates with a crew of 5: Pilot, Astrogator, Steward, Engineer, and Medic. Staterooms are available for up to 8 High Passengers, and there are 9 low berths. Adjacent to the bridge is a Computer Model 1/std.

The lower through-hull deck holds 200 tons of cargo, and landing legs allow both rough terrain landings and raising/lowering the cargo deck to meet loading ramps.

Attached to a streamlined bracket on top of the vessel is a standard 20 ton Launch.

Wow, a TL13 version.

Okay, on consideration, I think that's fine. I would be tempted to drop the TL all the way to 9, but as that only changes the armor level, I think it's fine as is.

I see you've designed it a cut above the tramp trader, with a positive demand and comfort. That's a pleasant surprise.

Believe it or not to keep the big numbers canon (passengers, crew, cargo, performance) the only other thing I could have done to use up the space reasonably would be maybe more armor, which wouldn't make sense really. I selected tech 13 because the Launch is TL 13 by the book.

TL 10 is as low as you could reasonably go as that would require importing the low berths (Tech 11).
Importing a fully built tech 13 Launch at TL10 is not as big a deal. Importing components several tech levels higher gets into problems of 'do we have the appropriate tools to mount, wire up, test, etc' the parts.

Also she's still 4 tons underweight. If it bothers people they can add an Office or something, which seems reasonable.

Replace a stateroom with a big luxury suite thingy, perhaps.

Oh - and add adaptable life support for sophonts that can't breathe our air. There's a ton.

Actually it's not undertonnage. I found a bug in the editor. It 'loses' the tonnage and cost of the landing legs when you load the yml file.

Hi,

having read the errata and looked ay page 500, I would build a TL or 2 higher,
so as to have Generic at half cost, or advanced at half size, generally aiming for TL11.

I think I can actually design a ship now after reading this.

Kind Regards

David
