Freighter F-K3U14 Al Morai MCr765.6 [AHG, AG]

Disposition: In Service

Al Morai maintains a homogenous fleet of 53 type MK Mora-class cargo carriers. The quantity 53 allows one ship to be present at each world along Al Morai's routes, as well as one ship in maintenance at each of the two overhaul facilities.

Al Morai also protects the ships on their routes with a squadron of four Route Protectors. Cruising the trade routes on a random basis, these ships maintain an armed presence for the line and act as a deterrant to piracy against Al Morai.

Al Morai's World class ships are named for the worlds on the company routes, for example, Regina, Fornice, Bendor, and Jewell. Two additional ships are named Imperial Glory and Imperial Reign.

These 3,000 ton ships are capable of jump-4 and 1G. Cargo capacity is 1,200 tons; there are staterooms for 30 passengers. Each ship carries three slow boats for ground contact; the ship itself is unstreamlined.

Overtonnage: 21 tons
Crew comfort: +0
Passenger demand: +0

Note: Probably originally a High Guard design. It's hard to squeeze Jump-4, 1200t cargo, 30 pax, and 3 shuttles into a 3,000t hull using ACS. I had to back down the shuttles to 30 ton slow boats, and the design is still overtonnage.

Two things came to mind. First whats the upper tonnage limit of your program? I have a few 12000 ton designs to kick out, your program would be a big help. Second why not drop down to 3G thats the standard speed of the fleet and saves some space and the surplus goes to the cargo.

Perhaps the writer got them mixed up with the jump-3 version Al Morai uses on its 3-parsec links. :D

(What, you actually believe in a business model that routinely uses J4 ships on 1-, 2-, and 3-parsec links?!? :nonono:)

what's the upper tonnage limit of your program?

The online version permits hulls up to 237,600 tons, but hull nomenclature (i.e. how the hull is 'named') is bizarre at that level. The design's okay otherwise, and nomenclature doesn't break anything. "Valid" hull nomenclature (up to Z9 hulls) is good up to 21,600 tons, and slightly invalid hull nomenclature (up to ZZ hulls) goes up to 79,200 tons.

why not drop down to [Jump] 3? That's the standard speed of the fleet and saves some space and the surplus goes to the cargo.

Requirements. It runs along the Xboat route; hence, it is a Jump 4 ship.

Wait, what? No no no, it and its sisters connect a set of worlds. The network overlaps the X-boat network in some places, but not for the purpose of running along X-boat routes; it merely connects some of the same worlds. Some of the links in the network are four parsecs long. Hence the original author made it J4 without considering the massive inefficiency involved in using J4 across 1-, 2- and 3-parsec routes (As I intended to spotlight in a whimsical way with my previous post, but apparently I was being too vague).

Yes I meant Jump 3 sorry type-o. Though couldn't you have special fuel bladder that can hold 1-4 jump worth of fuel but also collapsible so you can carry only what you need. This would give you up to an additional 900 tons of cargo on a jump 1. While you lose efficiency due to having the massive jump 4 engine you can get a lot back.

That would work if it wasn't for the fact[*] that fuel in collapsible tanks can't be used directly for a jump. It has to be transferred to a rigid tank first. So you can use collapsible tanks to provide extra fuel for subsequent jump(s) but not in the way you suggest.

[*] CT fact; I don't know if MgT has retained that rule.

i know that is trueish for external but why not do it internally it seems totally stupid not to do it that way. I think bending "canon" here fixes a whole bunch of other issues.

Perhaps the game designers didn't want people to be able to circumvent the consequences of having 40% of a J4 ship unavailable for cargo space by using collapsible tanks. This kind of rule is universal. If Al Morai can do it, then everybody can do it. If you don't want everyone to be able to do it, you can't allow Al Morai to do it.
