Science the skill

rades in English are likely what you would call a craft such as a Carpenter.
Yes, I understand it. I only put them as example due to this note in its description:

Unlike other skills with specialties, levels in the Trade skill do not grant the ability to use other specialties at skill level 0. Each specialty must be learned individually.

Yes, I understand it. I only put them as example due to this note in its description:
Though you are probably better at deciphering other languages than somebody who only speaks one language. Also it depends on how far one wishes to dig into languages, or anything. I liked Spain, adorable country, and easy enough to get by, my wife is Mexican so Spanish isn't difficult, though it's actually quite different between the two.

Due to this, I believe Linguistics skill, despite having specialties, should be treated as the Trde skill in the way knowing one specialty at any level should not give you skill 0 in all other specialties (in this case, other languages). At most, it could give it in related languages, if the referee wants to enter in this level of detail.

e.g. as I can talk several languages (as English, not being my native one), and so I must have some Linguistics skill in Traveller terms, that does not mean I can understand a single word in most world languages...

What about in a language family? (E.g. Romance Languages, Slavic Languages, Germanic Languages, etc)
