Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
I would like to say that I LOVE the layout of the MGT book. Very readable, NON-GLOSSY paper, no art behind text. The only area I could wish for improvement would be better-quality art (the amount is pretty much perfect).
My main problem is strictly the ugliness of the book.
Let me state that I am an original grognard type mfer.
The font is crappy, the layout is spotty etc. artwork meh.
I will say that I do like the rules.
So how about the bikewrench edition being;
soft cover, half page, heavily indexed, slight artwork revamp, and a "Mayday..." cover?
I'll buy at least two.
Seriously, I was sick of all of the bitchers until I saw it. No buy.
End of the line.
Art does attract me, but I bought it anyway. The only peice of art that I really don't like is the air/raft in the equipment section, I think. The cartoony one with flames shooting out of every orifice.
I like the book, though, and I like the rules. The starship design is a little too plain-Jane for my tastes, but it is supposed to be simple. I do recommend it.
I can easily see why some people say they like the art and some say they don't.
Even though these opinions seam to contrast, two people may actually have the same opinion. What? Take a look at page 58 and you'll see what I'm talking about. Which art is it that you do and don't like?
For me, it's the inconsistency of the art that exaggerates the things I don't care for and puts me in the don't like the art column.
I have to continue to criticise the art and the maps for that matter in the Spinward Marches book. Can't fault the writing (so far anyway I wasn't really looking to find issue but enjoyed the "feel" of it) but some of the art is really beginning to grate a little. But overall a very nice book.
Now for my rant. 760 Patrons. Interesting book, very useful but Patrons. :nonono: This isn't a patch on 76 Patrons, this is more like 1001 Characters but with bells on. In fact it would have been superb if they'd just given them all UPPs and skills. To me these are just character sketches and 3 random motivations, not real adventure seeds.
Still despite this I would heartily recommend both books. 760 Patrons is a fantastic resource and despite not having the "mini-adventures" feel of the original there are plenty of gems in there. SM provides the kind of introduction to the Third Imperium that should have been in the corebook, it is an incredibly concise piece of work which must be old hat to MJD, this is what, his fourth introduction to the 3I? :smirk: Get it as the definitive Marches book but try and get a decent map somewhere.
