The natural Safe Area in Hard Times is the Marches for all those who know the future (read: TNE). However, have anyone one else flirted with the idea of using any of the other safe areas in Hard Times as a way that players (or more accurately their decendants) may be the creators of a Pocket Empire when TNE rolls in?

The challenge mag had a TNE adventure set what was left of the league of antares. The league HQ had moved to a secret location after the fall of the league. This adventure covered this world's first expedition outside its star system in 1200. They were attempting a re-contact mission.

I always assumed that Margaret's safe would form the base of a new pocket empire. She was trying her best not to fight and keep a fleet/industry base in being

Margaret's Safe presents some interesting possibilities...

I wonder how much of her base would be industrial, as her main consort was actively involved in trade ie. buying cheap, selling dear which might explain some of the accusations of slavery manifesting themselves outside of Delphi. Then there is the slide toward the financial whereby the industrial economy stops producing and it becomes more profitable to trade in stocks and bonds not backed up by real assets in order to ensure a life of leisure for the nobility.

How much would Margaret be able to comprehend these trends and anticipate and prevent a collapse?
