S.A.M. systems

Is anyone aware of the stats for a s.a.m system?
it's a non mobile system defending a touch down pad(concrete landing pad).

can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Striker would probably allow you to design a non-mobile, heavy "tac missile" system - just invest in range and speed rather than in sheer penetration (aircraft aren't armoured in most cases; gravcraft are - which TL are you using for it, by the way?).

we are looking at TL 14/15 at best
in our game we are currently 30 years post virius release so that the tops for us.
what is striker?

Striker is is set of miniature/wargame rules which was first published in the early 1980's, using the official Traveller universe (OTU) as its default setting. While its main aim is to model combat at TLs 5-15, it also has a very detailed design system for the creation of weapons and vehicles at these TLs.

O.k.

s.a.m stands for Surface to Air Missile?

We need to know tech level, range, possibly terrain being defended.

Current SAMs include: Infrared Guided - homes on heat - could be bad for drop troops. Defeat with flares.

Laser Illuminated - 'paints' the target. Defeat by spoofing the seeker with illumination of the same characteristics of the laser.

Laser directed - Guided by signals from Controller sent by laser beam. Defeat by spoofing the Controller. An evolution of radio and wire-guided SAMs.

Radar Illuminated - Guided by Radar beams bounced off target. Generally longer ranged than the above systems. Defeated by jamming, spoofing.

Active Radar - Missile has own radar. As long ranged as Radar Illuminated, defeated by jamming, spoofing.

Starviking

SAMs, in the sense we're familiar with them, probably won't exist past TL 9-10 -- anything thin-skinned can be killed by a laser, and tougher targets will require anti-armor weapons.

Yo, Specter of the Lyran Alliance!
Surface to air missiles aren't just for anti-aircraft roles. They also can prevent starships from getting too close to your planet (usually stand off distance is Orbital/ 0-range bands).
An example...

From the GDW TNE Path of Tears, page 151:
"Generally designed as a medium ranged 2-stage air defense missile, and constructed to carry conventional nuclear warhead for use in upper atmosphere against squadrons of attacking aircraft. IN its present incarnation, the PDM uses a salvaged TL-8+ Bomb pumped X-ray laser warhead fitted in place of its former warhead, a process that adds almost 3 more meters to its length in the missile's second stage, and cuts back its range to 221Kms.
The range of the solid-fueled rocket is not important as their function is to lift the warhead out of the atmosphere in the general direction of the incoming target. Each missile locks on a radar guidance signal reflected off the target by a ground station (usually, but not always, one connected to the battery that launched them).
Once out of the atmosphere, the bomb pumped laser works just as the Ship-board versions do. If a Hit is rolled, roll 1D6 for the actual number of hits to the target. AV is the Armor value of the missiles skin.

PDM (planetary Defense Missile)
TL: 6/8
Yield(kt): 10
Mass(tonnes): 24.3
Price (MCr): 0.65
Hits: 1D6
Damage 1/8--25
Range: 0
Guidance: Radar designated
AV: 1
Agility: 4

Under the damage of TNE, "1/8" is interpreted as losing 1 point of damage per 8pts of armor form the over damage total (25). Thus one of these going through a TNE-merchant ship AV: 10 (The T20 equivalent of AR0/ AC10), would be 23 points of damage to the vessel (losing 2 points to penetrate through *+2 points of armor, rounding down).

Other Missiles warheads are detailed out in the GDW-TNE Reformation Coalition Equipment Guidebook & the equipemnt pages of the TNEHandbook--which is available in pdf nowadays at RPG Drivethru iirc.

MT'sCOACC likewise had a wide array of Anti-aircaft missiles, and auto cannons
before getting into the higher tech energy weapons range of AAA.

Hope these help!

Yes big thanks
this would put a nice new spin on this
I will have to get the books
so thanks again I am starting to thinks of some other adventure encounters for the players.

You're welcome! :D
