Roleplaying in the "Firefly" Universe

Hi,

This is my first post and I am considering a return to one of the first, non-D&D roleplaying games I ever played, "Traveller." My interest was revived by discovering the "Firefly" series on DVD and it reminded me of everything I enjoyed about "Traveller." My question is, given the number of books floating around for GURPS, and I don't have any other GURPS books around, what will I need to play a GURPS Firefly campaign. For example, is the Traveller conversion sufficient, or will I need the GURPS rulebook, etc.

You will need the GURPS rulebook, or possibly GURPS Lite ( availible from www.sjgames.com/gurps ) but as I don't play GURPS I don't know if Lite is up to the task.

IIRC, The hardback version of GURPS Traveller had GURPS Lite printed in with it? Can anyone confirm/correct that?

Y'know, knowing SJG I wouldn't be suprised if we see GURPS Firefly sometime soon (and you can count on SJG to do a decent treatment of most things).

And welcome to the boards Browncoat!

While Gurps Lite is good it isn't geared towards a science fiction game. (though it does have psionics which will come in handy)

I recommend also downloading Transhuman Space Lite (suggestion: rename the file when you save it so as not to confuse the two versions!) for a more focused version of Gurps Lite. Not printer-friendly. While you're at it you may want to also look at Gurps Lite WWII on the same page in the previous post. It has some lower tech guns and IIRC a little more combat detail. Soldiers are pretty much the same chargen wise no matter the setting.

Obligatory Firefly RPG Resources thread link.
