My folks and I are driving back down to Phoenix, AZ from Happyjack (Near flagstaff for those from the area). It was about 10pm or so, and we were heading home from vacation. The road we were taking back down (I don't think it is still there) winds down the side of the mountain that Flagstaff and all those are on. To one side you have the sheer rock face of the mountain, to the other a sheer drop to the forest floor below. In between a small two lane road where you can't see more than about two blocks ahead of you due to the curve of the mountain. Looking off to the forest side the view is filled with the trees below and the sky above. It must have been a new moon, either that or the moon was on the other side of the mountain because I don't recall seeing it as I looked out over the edge of the road. All I could see was the endless forest and countless stars.
Another I thought of. Time: Any year till I was about 9 years old. Place: Sonora Mexico. My family would go down there for vacation every summer, and my dad would bring his ATV. Now he would spend all day riding around our cabin, or even going off on trips through the desert. When the moon was full, he would ride at night, and often take me with him. We'd be riding the motorcycle with the sky above us, the desert all around, mountains on the horizon, and the full moon lighting the whole scene up like noon, while going 65 or 70 mph off through the brush.
