Rendering of a building on Azun

VERY well done render work. I dislike it intensely, but it's excellent work.

Why I dislike it:
  • The cloud looks wrong; it should have far more indicative turbulence to indicate airflow, and at the altitudes implied, still air is bloody rare, and is what's indicated.
  • The shape. Visually interesting, structurally a pair of tuning forks. Gonna literally hum in the wind. At a nauseating frequency.
  • broader at the top. Not a good idea structurally. Doable, just not reasonable.
  • cruciform base, rather than pyramidal or conical. Ground pressure issues.
  • no visible transportation infrastructure
  • no visible cultivation surrounding.

It does show you know your tools well.

I like it for a lot of the same reasons you dislike it. The building would be totaly impossible using today's construction methods and materials, but I see it as a representation of what could be built in the future using nano fibers, contragrav, maybe foamed metals made in zero gee or other exotic materials as yet undiscovered.

As for the foundation and transpo infrastructure that could be subterrainian. Who knows how many floors it goes down. As for the surrounding lands maybe that was part of the attraction, leaving everthing in sight pristine and untouched wilderness. It would be a heck of a view.

The landscape nearby does look very nice and pristine. Just don't go outside. The air is not all... there. There are no windows on the buildings, but everyone has a wall projection in their room of whatever view they have a camera feed to from outside.

Partly cloudy today on Azun.

One problem I have with the picture is the duplication of the city. Each arcology, while built on the same basic principles, has unique features. None of them would be carbon copies of each other. Check the three cities seen on the front page of the magazine.
