Races

Well, that was impressive, you two. Good info.

Two bits: 1) I think its GURPS, not GRUPS (GRUPS are what the kids call the Enterprise crew in Miri); 2) Is the stuff from HIWG even remotely canon? (I honestly don't know how much authority HIWG had for deciding things.)

1. Oops. The mind does strange things sometimes: To me 'GURPS' sounds too much like 'Burps', and you don't want to know where it goes from there. :file_28: So I guess i subconsciously transposed the letters to keep me out of trouble... But thanks for bringing it up. :)

2. I know that the HIWG did a lot of really good work, but yeah, was it canon? I guess I would have to fall back on the old standard: was it (any particular item) published?

3. Added a couple more races to the list and found an interesting contradiction. On the list right now the Gurvin are listed as Hexapodal social insects (based on Hivers and Ithklur). But in GURPS Alien Races 3 (p. 28) they are described as hexapods that look "something like Terran otters or mink". Alien Module 7: Hivers is unclear, just saying that they are "Derived from hexapodal omnivore/hunter stock.

Unfortunately I don't have 'Hivers and Ithklur' (yet), so I can't check. Any thoughts oh how to resolve this? Or does anyone care?

Brunel University Roleplaying Society? :-)

I'm not sure whether it is a contradiction. I can imagine social insects with fur that look a bit like otters. Maybe we just list all of it with each accreditation and see how we go from there?

As an aside, I wrote up the alien races from CJ Cherryh's Chanur series of books for TNE and it was published in Valkyrie magazine. Would it be OK to add them to the list too or is that too derivative?

Cheers

David

Get gruffty's opinion on this (PM him?). He's the go-to sophont for all things Hiver around here. (And the "author" of the wiki here on AM7.)

Yeah, that would be too derivative. However, I don't think another page would be out of the question - one on non-canon races, maybe?
