Quick question on World Data

Maladominus

SOC-14 1K
Hi all

I'm an old CT canon-monger. Lately, I *have* been perusing some MegaTraveller material... and I had a question:

I only am familiar with the CT LBB3 trade classifications and world UPP classifications.

Can someone tell me what "PPG" means, and also what trade classifications like Fl and C5 and D0 means?

Here is an example of a beyond-CT UPP:

A'awiy 0106 A959678-C F D5 Ni 103 Na

OK. The name os A'awiy. It's position 0106. Classic UPP is A959678-C F. What the hell does D5 mean? And I know tha Ni means Non-industrial because my Book 3 tells me so. But I'd like to see a complete Map Key for all these other notations....

thanks for any help

PPG = population, planetoid belts, gas giants.

The population multiplier tells you how many people fall within the mainworl population, e.g. in your example the UWP population figure is 6, so there are 1-9 million inhabitants. The population multiplier tells you it is 1 million.

The planetoid belt number tells you how many asteroid/planetoid belts are in the system, while the gas giant number tells you how many gas giants there are.

D5 could mean the world has a Droyne population of 5.

C4 would be chirpers 4, A7 aslan 7 etc.

F is a type of base I think.

I can't remember where I got the last two from, but I can go and look it up ;)

Hi, I play a mix of MT and CT.

PBG Is as follows:

P= Is the population multiplier ie UWP Pop 5 * Multiplier 7= approx 700,000 sentient inhabitants.

B= The number of Planetoid/Asteroid belts in the system

G= The number of Gas Giants in the system.

Things like D5 and C0 refer to percentages of the planetary population who are not the main race in the 'local' interstellar area, D is 50% Droyne. C0 refers to Chirpers.

Therefore the example planet has an approx population of 1,000,000 of whom approx 500,000 are Droyne.

However notations Cp and Cx refer to interstellar polity capitals.

Fl means Fluid Oceans, i.e. not water, usually nasty but potentially profitable things like Hydrocarbons etc. Canonical from LBB7 'Merchant Prince' (1985) onwards.

Na is an allegience code meaning 'Non-Aligned' to any interstellar polities.

The F refers to 1 or more 'Non-Imperial' or more broadly 'Non-Aligned' Naval & Military Bases maintained in this case by the various planetary governments or possibly by planetary or offworld companies/corporations.

Fascinating planet actually. I imagine the Droyne have entirely separate governments and fleets, or do they? A very rich environment for adventure.

Most of the format is covered in the MT 'Referee's Manual' (1987). Which is now available on CDROM from FarFuture

Sorry typos: D5= 50% Droyne, C0 means a small population (ie less than 10%) of Chirpers.

M= Non Imperial Military Base (ie 'Ground' forces)
J= Indepedent Naval Base
F= Non Imperial Naval and Military Bases.

It is usually TPPG or TPBG, adding the Amber or Red zone code where relevant.
