Questions about the Hiver

One do the hiver have suction cups on the inside of their apendages including the one with the eyes? How many sub tentacles are there supposed to be. I have only seen a few low detail pics and I am in the process of making one in 3D. It is harder to cheat in 3D. Is it 5 or 6 apendages and how many eyes?

(I play a Hiver)

Six eyes, six limbs, Each limb has a six fingered "Hand" which is covered in thousands of tiny suction cup "feet", like on a Starfish. These do not allow for Spiderman wall crawling, but are good for grabbing food.

Each set of two eyes and two limbs is a "view". It is sort of like a Hiver being equal to three people in regards to focus of senses. Hivers cannot be surprised. The eyes are on stalk-like tentacles and can see in 360 degrees in infrared.

Well this is the work so far I am about ready for suction cups on the apendages. I think he still needs soem tweaking. Take a look at the shape there are no textures on him yet. How about a good name!

Mander, That one you have is awesome! What program are you using? I would make the center body more hump like, and the eyes about 50% bigger overall I think they are near human eye size, with stalks to match.

So glad to see nestman Gruffty up on it! I was wondering when his primary limb would rear!

I really want to get some comments so I can make it look good. Thanks I will tweak the eyes a bit and the hump area. Then set it up for UV mapping and then texturing and finally rendering. That was done in Wings 3D a quite good box modeler. It is free and right here. http://wings3d.com/ I am going to put him in a big scene with a far trader and a few odds and ends. I played one a bit in a campaign ages ago.

Put on a few shaders. (sorry I can't do IMG tags from here) also resized the eyes and the hump. This is more efficiant than painted textures. I have a whole scene planned. so he will only be a small part of it.

I only seen them with some sort of CPU on their back never any clothes....HMMM. Hiver ⌧ just don't go there man. I like the impressionist approach. I am doing a bigger render so I think I will not get into any deeper detail. I tend to try to do things to the level of detail required.

I don't recall where but I do remember seeing a Hiver in some sort of parka. Clothes in the traditional sense are not really neccessary for Hivers who are able to generate fields that provide protection against the elements. As for Hiver ⌧...watch the Nature Channel and watch the mating habits of starfish, save it begins with a handshake.

One nitpick: the eyes look a bit like Christms lights at this point. But, I'm not up on hivers, so what Gruffty says goes.

I agree about the light thing but they will oook a bit better witha envirnment to reflect them. Ther ei sa nitpick I came up wiht myself on the eyes. I grouped them wrong and I could not make an additional clear layer for them that is what gies eyes a real good look. Right now he is going for a bit par tin a big render so he will stay like he is now. I will do more work on him when he is ready for his closeup.
Baron nice pic there. 3D is nto an impressionist art form. He will be part of a big render I have been workign on for hte past week. (still picture should go back to pen and ink would have been done long ago)
